Re: Allied use of captured Axis AFVs and Tanks
I find it interesting that they used white stars instead of red ones.

Re: Allied use of captured Axis AFVs and Tanks
This is from memory, so don't trust it fully, (or at all...) but If I recall, though not taken up universally the white star was agreed upon as a universal identifier as the Allied armies began to converge. Like that white band painted around many Soviet turrets in Berlin it would present less opportunities for 'blue on blue' incidents.
I think.
Either that or a complete lack of red paint...
Cheers,
Adam.

Re: Allied use of captured Axis AFVs and Tanks
Will this do you?
Mark III, captured by the Soviets at some point and converted to SU76i SPG configuration, then recaptured by the Germans to serve with 128 Pz.Jg.Abt. 23 Pz.Div. as a 'Sturmgeschutze SU-76i (r)' :

Re: Allied use of captured Axis AFVs and Tanks
What an interesting thread! I remember a Panther in some Brit unit where all tanks were named D****, which had been awarded the grand name Deserter
This must be in B.T.White's British Tank Markings and Names
