"Fiat Spa.AS37(captured) - A number of these vehicles were captured from Italian troops, but their desert performance was no match for LRDG's Chevy and Ford trucks. They were temporarily used as training vehicles for new drivers."
I wonder how much spare parts they captured too? LOL

Re: Allied use of captured Axis AFVs and Tanks
Heres a question? What modifications, other then perhaps repainting and markings, Did the Allies make to some of the captured vehicles?

Re: Allied use of captured Axis AFVs and Tanks
Uncle Joe was Joe Stalin to most people I think, maybe it was a comment on the 'redistribution' of wealth going on there

Query, where is that photo of the truck being pulled by the jeep taken? I am sure the slogan is in reference to Stalin, but knowing where the picture was taken would help.
I don't recognize the grill pattern, and since most Soviet trucks were made in or by American companies (GAZ was Ford, ZiS was Autocar), but there were R.E.O. Speedwagons also made in USSR under license and that could be an REO flatbed with the Soviet star on the front. There were also Plymouth trucks built in the USSR, but that doesn't look like one exactly. Nor does it look like the single axle IHC or Chevy.

Those are two different trucks, this one is either a Toyota or an Isuzu, I lean toward the Toyota because of the headlights mounted on the radiator surround instead of the fenders. Most of the old Iszuz's I've spotted from WW2 era had their's mounted on the fenders.

Re: Allied use of captured Axis AFVs and Tanks
I've got another idea, maybe the "diggers" were given the captured Japanese vehicles by "Vinegar Joe" Stillwell? Perhaps they were expressing their appreciation for being relieved from "shanks pony"!

The one in the first photo is a Nissan I think
It might be a Joe Stillwell thing, that would make more sense

I don't have my books on me, but I remember seeing there was one named Deserter
