Default Me 262 in production and flying again!

There is a group of people who are reproducing the Me 262-----again.

ME262 Project

(the Stormbirds link in broken at this time).

Here are some videos of the reborn birds:

YouTube - Me 262 Flys Again!

YouTube - Messerschmitt Me-262 on ILA 2006
(This one is the first Me 262 to fly in Germany since WWII)

YouTube - Messerschmitt Me262 Schwalbe

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDFeDxZlrGM

There are more.

I am just blown away that somebody has actually come up with the resources and technical expertise to pull this off so well.

I'm guessing by your comment that these are reproduction and not original airframes?

Either way, they look good.

This has been ongoing for sometime.

If I remember correctly the aircraft are reproduced using original parts as templates and General Electric made jet engines. I believe one or two original aircraft were used for the parts templates.

Also, IIRC, the History Channel did a show on these folks.

Default More power to their elbows

If I remember rightly they've been granted official Werke Numbers by the Messerschmitt foundation, making them 'genuine' Messerschmitts.

It's been a tortuous process by the sounds of it though, I believe the financial side has been, unsurprisingly, quite 'changeable'?

Cheers,
Adam.

If you guys scout around You Tube, you might be able to find that show.

Adam,

If I recall, $$ was a big problem, especially since so much machine work was involved. Now I feel the need to see that show again.

Tom,

I thought this was also being done with a BF-109 using a Spanish licenced built aircraft as a template for new parts. Does anyone else remember this??

I don't know about the BF-109s, but how much are testicles worth? I'd give my nuts to own one of them......

Over here in Australia specifically Brisbane on one of the airbases here they have recreated and working lancaster bombers, B17's, corsairs, wildcats, mustangs, spitfires and hurricanes it is pretty cool at the airshows,

well not to rub it in but have visited the Me 262 recon bird, almost got into the cockpit and watched former 262 Hans B. sit in the thing and give full pilot instructions on how to start and get ready to roll at Chino AFB some years ago

One of their aircraft crash landed recently.

The Star Beacon; Ashtabula, Ohio - Pilot walks away from crash

Pilot walks away from crash
Plane from kit loses power, hits pond

THE PILOT of this replica model P-51 aircraft walked away from the crash Thursday near the Harpersfield and Austinburg Township lines just northwest of Sexton Road and Clay Street.
BILL WEST

HARPERSFIELD TOWNSHIP — The law of gravity states: what goes up must come down, and as a local pilot of a P-51 Mustang replica aircraft discovered Thursday afternoon, coming down is the hard part.

The pilot, William T. Koleno II, 40, of Geneva, was seen walking away from the crash sight escorted by Ohio Highway Patrol Saybrook Post Trooper Nathan Dutton and Harpersfield Fire Department rescue personnel.

The aircraft, a three-quarter scale World War II replica named, “Miss Helen,” crashed on a small inlet of land next to a large pond north of 4180 Clay St., which is the Germack Airstrip. At the crash sight, the right wing was torn off and the propeller had dug into the soft ground.

Koleno, a licensed pilot, who has been flying for more than 18 years, was turning to make a landing at the Germack Airstrip when the engine revved and then began to lose power rapidly, Dutton said.

“Koleno attempted to adjust the prop but it did not work; he was unable to pick up speed and the plane quit flying,” he said. “This airplane was just completed,” said a bystander who would only identify himself as one of the people who helped to build the aircraft. “It only had about 25 hours flying time on it; it took about six months to build.”

In fact, the aircraft is a kit plane that is sold at Titan Industries, where Koleno is employed, Dutton said. The bystander also said the aircraft was made of 4130 fuselage aluminum skin and has a Suzuki 2.7 constant speed propeller.

“Koleno only suffered a few scratches, he is a very lucky man,” Dutton said.
The investigation will be turned over to the FAA for further review.

The "new" 262 phenomena is just superb that a world can be that interested in an aircraft type.

the project has been in long time making with the craft flyable 2 years ago so not really a new thing, you'll be seeing them soon enough as the Berlin example makes it's round in Germany several German craft outfits are bidding for duplication

Hi Everybody,

It's not about the ME 262 but a little bit related.
I would love to see a working reproduction of the Avro Arrow.
Some say there are enough parts here and there to make it.
There is even a missing plane but that might just be a legend.
I worked a couple years in the same bay where the final assembly was.
Cheers
