Nashorn Incident
I read on Wikipedia a while ago that a Nashorn tank destroyer knocked out a Soviet IS-II from 4,600 meters away. However, it had the "citation needed" thing after it. Could such an incident have occurred? If so, does anybody know anything about it?

Re: Nashorn Incident
That is close to 2 1/2 miles. I think it feasible for a Flak 88mm to do that But don't know about the PAK 43 version which can penetrate 200mm of armor at 1000m. It would have to be a very very lucky shot

Re: Nashorn Incident
You can say that again, PzJgr! The 8.8 PaK 43 was a great long rifle, but just hitting a target the size of a small truck at that distance must have been an achievement in itself, bar going after the target being penetrated or not. Yes, it does need confirmation.

Re: Nashorn Incident
speaking of long range shots, i was reading in the combat history of s. Pz. Abt. 507 that a tiger crew spotted a t-34 accompanying a convoy about 6-7 kilos distant. by applying maximum elevation and a 300 meter lead the tank was hit! talk about a million dollar shot!

Re: Nashorn Incident
Then the others would have been 100,000 $ shots

Re: Nashorn Incident
Note that the website said "it was reported..." which suggests it hasn't been proved.

Re: Nashorn Incident
While it is possible for this to happen, I would not say that it is a common thing. So the story could be true but don't believe that happens all the time
