What's Your Favorite Fortress?
Larry proposed a fun poll on our site "Might and Armor" for aviator fans. "To 'B' or not to Be?" and asked people to vote on their favorite Fortress (Flying, Super, or B-24). Take the poll and we'll post the results:
Might and Armor: The Weaponry of World War II: To B or Not to B? Take the Poll.

Schoenenbourg, part of the Maginot Line in Alsace. But I don't expect it would fly very well.

B-17 being the classical bomber from the movies, of course...

specifically, the 'Can Do.' I didn't like the 'Memphis Belle' too much.

Re: What's Your Favorite Fortress?
B-29. I knew a late B-29 pilot who died a couple years ago, he was captain when a Jap fighter actually rammed his aircraft and left the tail stuck mid fuselage. Someone in another aircraft in the formation took a picture of his B-29 complete with japanese plane still attached, which he showed me. He landed the airplane safely. What a great airplane!
You can't help but wonder the German reaction on finding the B-29 was not going to be used against them. Surely the crack of doom!

Re: What's Your Favorite Fortress?
Posted on the site is the following:
Boeing Aircraft manufactured plenty of different planes in WWII. The ones they were most famous for included the B-17 AKA the "Flying Fortress"; the B-24, which had the biggest production run but traded quality for quantity; and the B-29 (pictured), the "Superfortress" which incorporated many advances from the previous planes. Which Boeing would you have preferred to fly? Take the poll at left and tell us.
Now, I hate to be a wet blanket..... (well, actually, that's not quite true.... truth be told, I'm really kind of enjoying it!....).... but.....
GOOD GRIEF, PEOPLE.......
BOEING DIDN'T MAKE THE B-24 LIBERATOR...... CONSOLIDATED AIRCRAFT DID!!!
Boeing made the B-17 and the B-29... Consolidated made the B-24 (as well as the PBY Catalina and the little used B-32 Dominator)
OK..... I'll be quiet now.
-whatever

You're not a wet blanket, Lou. That's like saying that Ford made some great cars in the '50s, like the Thunderbird and '57 Bel Air.
