Question unidentified Japanese rifle

Hi I have a Japanes rifle that I can't Id. It looks like a Type 38 carbine, but with the old style 38 front sight. All 38 carbines I have seen have the Type 99 front sight. Another thing is it has no serial number, it has the arsenal mark as Toyko, and the S proof mark. But here is the odd thing the mum is intact, but it marked Type 44. Can anyone help me Id. this gun. Thanks
