Battle of the Bulge
Hello, 
A few years ago I started to collect some pictures concerning monuments that were related to the famous Battle of the Bulge. This battle was fought in our country during december 1944 and january 1945. The french speaking part of Belgium then, faced a very dark and cold winter.
I want to place here a picture from the early days of one of these monuments: a Sherman on the Mac Auliffe square in Bastogne.

Hello,
However the Sherman on the Mac Auliffe Place has the emblem of the 4th US Armored Division, there is some proof that this vehicle took part at te liberation of Renuamont (Belgium) on the second of january 1945. Therefore, some historians mean this tank and his crew were member of the 11th US Armored Division. There is a book at the market with the complete history of this armored vehicle.

The tank on the McAuliffe Place was destroyed on December 30, 1944. The crew was captured by the Germans. Initially they were treated in a nice way.
Then the Germans dicovered they were Jewish. The Germans changed and were going to kill them. they were saved by other American soldiers. The tank was hit 2, even though you can see 3 places of inpact. The engine was destroyed. The engine can still been seen in the Bastogne Historical centre.
