Where would YOU serve in WW2?
Well, something I have been thinking of at times. What army and where would YOU serve in WW2 if you could decide the troops? No, not a general, but to start as part of the troops as concricpt? Waffen-SS, Luftwaffe, Paras, British, US and the division which colours and uniform you wish to wear.
I would go for the Finnish volunteers of Waffen-SS first and later on ( if survived the hell in Grozny etc ) back to the Finnish panzer grenadier forces lead by Finnish General Lagus for the battle of Karelia isthmus 1944 when 600 Russian tanks were destroyed!

I'd be happy to serve in the PBI of the British Army, or follow my father's footsteps into the Royal Artillery; truly one of the elite and best performing arms of service in WW2!

First, as an Ami, I would serve in the 8th Air Force in the B-17s as a waist gunner.
As a Jerry--I would have probably been in the Army in the Signals branch and serving in France.

Hard choice.
First choice, Royal Marines.
Second choice, Royal Armoured Corps.
Third choice, Any of the British Army research establishments (especially tanks) so I could play with everyone else's tanks, guns etc. during and after the war.

Being a soldier of the Africa Korps has always been a dream. Under the brilliant commmander Rommel.
I want to be an infantry or driving a tank.

Fl;ying a Spitfire IX in Italy, I reckon.
It's tempting to say the Paras - but just reading about the training makes me feel broken and exhausted.......

Very good question, and I have pondered this question before. I would have to say that I probably would've joined the Luftwaffe, and volenteered to be a fallschimjager! Taking Eben Emal by gliders, and later Droping out of a Ju52 into the British/Austrailian stronghold of Crete!
Now that would be awesome!
Kickin' ass and taken initials! I don't have time for names!
My second choice would be a Luftwaffe figher pilot. Flying the Fw190 and later Ta152, and scoring over 300 kills of course! Mostly Mustangs!

You wouldn't be takin' down no Mustangs. The Mustangs be takin' you down I tell you what. Them there Mustangs be just to much for yall' to handle. Pardon my slang.
My second choice would be to be a mechanic who mainly works on Rolls-Royce Merlin engines.

I'll be joining Red Baron in his underground bunker. I don't think there are bonuses for being shot at, or jumping out of a serviceable aircraft or being on a Murmansk convoy.

Someday--I will own a STANG. I know where a complete canopy to one is just sitting outside--withering away. Now all I need is the rest of the parts and ill have my own P-51.
