| What If? Alternate History: Speculate about WWII battles that never were. Could the Axis have won? What if Hitler had the bomb? |

Who do you think would have replaced Ike in Europe if he had been KIA?

Probably Bradley...Though I think Roosevelt (providing he would have been the pres at the time) would have put pressure on Marshall again...

It would have definately been an American, and of all American commanders I can only think of Omar Nelson Bradley, unless they wanted to lose the war and appoint Mark Clark on his place!
I don't think Georgie Patton was someone to hold coalitions to-gether…

By this point in the war it would have probably fallen to an american though having siad that it could have been given to tedder, his deputy. Depends on when you place his death. certainly by 45 it would have been an american as they were certainly the senior partner. While everyone says bradley, Devers, commander of 6th Army Group, should not be ruled out as he was the original commander of US in britian and therefore has lots of experience with his allies. Patton and Monty would have been bad choices because of there egotism.

I think Patton was a very good commander but really not any diplomatic skills. How many times he said "nice" things about other generals and the Soviets for example.

Some of Pattons quotes regarding the Russians are terrible! You would think he was fighting the Germans cos they were between him and the Soviets...
Still I would like to have seen Pattons THIRD aRMY make a try up the road to Arnhem instead of XXX Corps...
Not sure their is another personality capable of filling Ikes shoes...
