What If? Alternate History: Speculate about WWII battles that never were. Could the Axis have won? What if Hitler had the bomb?

If Hitler got to Antwerp what impact could it have on the war in the west?

It would have been shortened without a doubt. The result would have been a Falaise Gap in reverse ; the overwhelming strength of the Allies ( particularly in tactical airpower ) would have slaughtered German armour on the flat countryside of Belgium. The Germans would have been unable to maintain supply lines to their forward troops.

Might have seen Ike given the flick and GC Marshall try his hand at running an Army in the field.

As they couldnt defend the limited salient caused by the Ardennes they would be hopless trying to hold a 3-4 times longer front line.

This would lead to Martin's reply.

If the Germans had succeeded to take Antwerp it would had only been a hollow victory the Allies would had bought their air power down on them.

Richard the last part of your comments were held true, the fog/snow lifted and Allied air power scooped out the Wehrmacht like a hammer blow. Even with the silly Bodenplatte escapade on 1-1-45 nothing was gained, the Luftwaffe lost more "boys" and a/c and for what ? I have interviewed two chaps that flew that mission and they both still shake their heads the Luftwaffe Hierarchy was just plain foolish.

I could easily see the Allied forces doing a typical German pincer movemnt and surrounding the German armies slowly breaking them down to dust. A German kessel would of formed that they never would of been able to get out. What could the Kreigsmarine accomplish running the risk of sub and air attacks daily, nightly and whenever
