The after effects of the war
The allies had developed jet aircraft by the end of the war and they had the potential to place jets in combat if the war had lasted longer. However, the definitive fighter aircraft of the Korean War, were the Mig-15 and the F-86 Sabre. Both of these benefited from the wind tunnel tests done by the Germans. The sweep wing developed by Messerschmidt was a benchmark in jet fighter design. If you look at the P-80 and the P/F-84, they were grossly inferior to the Mig-15 in combat. Granted some of the problems were due to the poor performance of the turbines, but the combat performance was mostly due to the sweep wing design.
So what might have happened in Korea if the Russians or the other allies had gained total control of the jet and rocket research done by the Germans. Would either side have enough of an advantage that it would have upset the balance of power and future events?

Re: The after effects of the war
Strange question. If the Soviets had the monopoly of the German aerodynamic advancements we would have seen the MiG 15 against F-80s, F-84s and Meteors, no F-86. If it were the other way round then it would have been the above with the F-86 too, against MiG 9s and Yak 15s

Re: The after effects of the war
My thought is that if the Soviets did not have the Mig-15, would they, or even the Chinese, have backed the North Koreans as much, knowing that they were unable to effectively challenge the U.S.in the air? Without the Chinese coming across the borders, it is possible that there would not have been a North Korea.
If the U.S. did not have the F-86 in time to counter the Migs, would that give the communists control of the air? Could they have taken South Korea and change the dynamics of the world?

Re: The after effects of the war
The success of the Mig-15 is not from German research but from the British "lending" them a Goblin jet engine to copy. One of the more dumb things done in post WWII history. The Goblin was superior to anything the US, Russians, or Germans had to date. The Russians armed them well and made them easy to work on but the engine was the key to making them fly as well as they did for the Russian pilots. The Mig 15 did not work very well for Korean pilots.
Also I don't see how losing South Korea would change anything in the world except for the South Koreans. North and South Korea is just an artificial boundry made by nations other than the Koreans.

Re: The after effects of the war
First off, the Mig-15 used an unauthorized copy of the RR Nene engine. It was reversed engineered and modified with a larger combustion chamber and other improvements as the Kilmov VK-1. The RR Derwent engine, (the third generation of the W2B) was also copied by the Russians and used in several aircraft, including some of the Yaks as the KIlmov RD-500.
The designs of jet engines borrowed heavily on what other countries developed. The only real fault of the German designs was the lack of metals that could handle the demands. But the one thing that the Germans did that did not happen in other countries, was the development of high speed wind tunnel testing into new wing designs. Willie Messerschmidt found the optimum wing angle and other innovations that were years ahead of any other country.
As for the effect on future events, Korea has become a powerful economic force in Asia. There were also major issues between the Koreans and the Japanese. Those issues were still strong 25 years after the war. It is not difficult to imagine that if the koreans were united under communist rule, that they would consider trying to take over Japan. And considering the feelings still strong in China and Russia over the Japanese, they would fully support such and actAs a scenario, it would be very unpredicatable, but one that they would consider. Pushing the U.S. out of Korea would embolden the Koreans and Chinese to consider such an action with Soviet help.

Re: The after effects of the war
You are correct about the Rolls Royce engine. I woke up this morning and thought the Goblin did not sound right so I looked it up and it was the Nene engine. My Brain cells are not what they used to be.
I am looking at a picture of a Mig-15 and the wings look to have more of a sweep than the Me-262 but it might be an optical appearence. My book does not give the angle of sweep. At any rate you are very correct on the Mig-15 information.
I do stand by my Korea thoughts though. There is nothing there worth getting killed over.
