| What If? Alternate History: Speculate about WWII battles that never were. Could the Axis have won? What if Hitler had the bomb? |

What if there was no Trans-Siberian railroad
Would this have hampered with Russia's war? What would have happened when Barbarossa came rolling around? Would Russia be set up differently?

Re: What if there was no Trans-Siberian railroad
If there were no Transsiberian there would have been no URSS. Need I say more?
However, the Transsiberian railroad did exist, no need to

Re: What if there was no Trans-Siberian railroad
I agree.... ( damn it I, hate saying that! )
This would fit in with the what-if "Russia was not industrialized" thread as they are attached. With no Railroad Russia would simply fail to industrialize. Hence like Miguel said, no USSR!

Re: What if there was no Trans-Siberian railroad
Now, if one were to ask what if the Germans had the means to attack this railroad it might be interesting.

Re: What if there was no Trans-Siberian railroad
This what-if is based on such a radical and fundamental premise that it makes the entire history afterwards totally different. If you want a couple of analogue and what-ifs that make (or don't) as much sense as the one above, we can have:
a) if Bismarck had failed to unify Germany in the 19th Cent., with Germany divided into Prussia, Bavaria, Hesse, Saxony, Hannover, the Hanseatic Free Cities, Brunswick, etc. etc. then would Barbarossa have run the same course?
b) Would there have had been a Pearl Harbour if the United States of America had been limited to the original 13 Colonies?
