Default different russian strategy

i think that if the germans would have concentrated their attack on the food producing ukraine then proceeding up and capturing the oil production centers of southern russia they would have had a far easier time instead of bum rushing moscow and being spread out.

any thoughts????

Hitler for sure would not have been into a long war ideology which the idea of concentrating the offensive to the Southern sector would have meant.

Naturally for Germany more resources would be available by attacking south, especially wheat etc the following years, but the Soviets would have destroyed the oil wells for many years and Germany would not have gotten any valuable amounts for years.

Mean while the Western Allied would be sending loads of food and oil etc to the Soviets while for Hitler the conquered areas could be used after several years of fixing only. I recall even the coal was different and needed to be handled for usage (?!).

I donīt say it isnīt a good idea but it would not do immediate good at least for the Germans, I think.

Maybe if the Germans had sabotaged the Oil areas in the early hours of Barbarossa things might have been different for the later autumn 1941 phases for the German attack as possibly the Red Army would have been out-of-fuel to make their attacks. Does not change the fact Germans could not get oil from the Russian oil production center for some time.
