I would hate to be on the German side in the Battle Of Stalingrad or The Battle Of Berlin.

I would despise being an able bodied civilian anywhere in western Russia.

Re: Where wouldn't you serve in ww2
I would probably not want to serve as a sailor in the Japanses Navy, or as a German soldier at Stalingrad after they got surrounded.

Re: Where wouldn't you serve in ww2
In the Ostfront, in a desert, in a jungle, underwater, in the sky, in a forest, on a beach, on a plain, in the mountains, in a swamp, in a losing battle or campaign.
That basically rules out everything except the 1944-45 U.S. Navy surface fleet, and the Continental U.S.

I'm with you on this, except I'm also ruling out the US Navy surface fleet. My choice is to be on submarine spotting duty in Omaha.

Re: Where wouldn't you serve in ww2
in the Luftwaffe flying against the US heavy bomber formations with loads of Mustangs lying in wait ..... 1944-45.
a cousin of mine fell in protecting his country, or so he thought, was it worth it ....... ?
if I really had a choice being of the present older generation, and seriously if I had a choice and not have vindictive govt. regulators on my back/jail sentance for refusal of service ........... I would rather stay home, secure a good job and have babies with my lovely bride and grow quite old together in peace.
