"Tank Killers" by: Thomas W. Breyette and Roger (God of war and Militaria) Bender?

Its a book with excellent information about the Tank Destruction Badge, and some great photos of it and some Knights Cross Recipients. Plus good info about documents-field made badges-fakes-etc.

On a scale of 1-100, I would give it about a 95%. It doesn't rate 100% because of not enough color photos. Then again, its only a trade paperback.

Hey Carl !

Yes, agreed, Tank Killers is a nice little book. I would of love to have seen the authors further the bio's of many if not all of the men mentioned. Also maybe taking more time to make better scans of the photos included. They seemd to be a little on the dark side. Lastly, maybe a bit more length to the materials covering the anti-tank type weapons. I know with the statements I've made the books price would have risen upwards to 35-45.00 dollars. This book though at around $20.00 is a treasure !

Grrrrr, I paid $25.00 but he made a "deal" and I got both his copies for $40.00.

I bought both copies this dealer had because some of the KC vets are still living and im going to mail a copy off to be autographed. My sister is ticked off because "I wasted my money on a book". little does she know that I bought TWO copies.

I agree, it is a good book but could have been better. It does have some good info on a few of these guys though-like Peter Kiesgen. I have the photo of him that was published in Jamer Lucas book: Kommando. PK is "teaching a group of ""wherwolf kommandos"" on the methods opf firing the Panzerfaust. In reality, its a group of Hitler Youth--you can clearly see the HJ armband on at least one of them in the photo. So much for James Lucas....

What kind of info is included on the actual badges and awarddocuments?

Are the tactics and equipment of these troops covered in depth or only briefly?

/Marcus

Marcus: It starts off with a forward by Hauptmann Bodo Spranz, who commanded a Sturmgeschutz Unit. He was credited with 4 Panzerkampfwagonabziechen. (4 single-handed tank destruction strips)

The book starts off with some info on the development of Anti-tank rifles in ww1. It has a history of the badge-when concieved-issued etc.

Book has many many photos of the badge being worn-being presented etc. Also has many detail photos of the badge in Silver and photos of the badge in Gold.

The book shows examples od embroidered and field made TDB's and goes into showing some that are pure fakes i.e. post war Austrian made badges.

This goes into methods of wear showing a few photos of the badge being worn on the left arm and or just over a cufftitle. The book shows Willi fey and Heinrich Andings Bundeswehr Ribbon bars with miniture devices on them.

Then there is many photos of award documents and variations to them. Includes Soldbuch and Wehrpass entries.

Plus has a section on awardees of the Kriegsmarine and the Hitler Youth, with documents and photos.

Then there is an individul history's section with photos of 72 different KC recipients with Panzerkampfwagonabziechen and extra photos of about a dozen of these men.

Then there are several pages of photos with unidentified KC and non-KC men with the badge.

The book ends with a good representation of Anti-tank weapons from guns-to-mines and Panzerfausts etc.

All this in a book that costs about $20.00 Dollars.

Thanks for the shameless advertising.

Carl,

Thanks for that very good description. I will definately have to get that book.

The other books I have that are published by Bender Publishing are all excellent, so I am sure that this one will be too.

Dear Marcus, quite welcome and the book is pretty nice. I have two copies with one going to be sent off for a few of the KV vets to sign, im not sure about the other copy yet, I was thinking of giving it to Remy Schrijnen as a fathers day gift, but--I "aint" decided yet.
