..declined ? are you sure..? I recall talking to Bob Edwards when he was apparently part way through the translation..I assumed an English language edition had been published
if it wasn't, I suspect the reason has more to do with the fact that certain French authors were unhappy that some of their photos had -allegedly - been scanned without permission. BR certainly got in a pre-emptive 'complaint' to Fedorowicz ...Schneider covers the late August s.Pz.Abt 503 actions around Mantes in his book - which is not Normandy

Re: Wittmann books.
I must admit to having never seen a copy of this book and it sounds like the sort of thing that would interest me.....

Re: Wittmann books.
I take it that this is the 'Tigers In Combat' Schneider...? I checked out his two volumes published by Stackpole during the week, but found the quality of photo reproduction very disappointing despite the relatively low price.....

Re: Wittmann books.

Re: Wittmann books.
Thanks to PaulUK's recommendation, I have just received my copy of 'No Holding Back' from Amazon at a very reasonable cost. This is a very well-produced book indeed and first impressions are that it is well-written and researched, with many useful illustrations and, indeed, a very thorough 'Wittmann' appendix.
I'm looking forward to reading this book at leisure.....

First of all DON'T buy or even attempt to read 'Tiger Ace' by Simpson.
I'd recommend ( in order ) :
'Panzers In Normandy - Then & Now' by Eric LeFevre
'Villers-Bocage Through The Lens' by Daniel Taylor
'Steel Inferno - 1 SS Panzer Corps In Normandy' by Michael Reynolds
All recently published. There must be some other good ones . . . .

Re: Wittmann books.
Get it down off the shelf and see if you can read more than 15 full pages without swearing... Bet you can't .
That rarest of things; a book from Schiffer that goes straight into the hall of shame. Hagiographic, flowery, and so poorly written as to read like a translation from English.
Other than that, It's great!
I know that guilty 'book sat on the shelf for years unread' feeling well. It was ok when it was mostly stuff from charity shops for a few quid, but since having kids there's a fair few feet of somewhat pricey, & yet still virgin, tomes that keep reminding me how slack I am in the reading of late.
(WW seems to think I should give them to him... pah!)
Cheers,
Adam.

Re: Wittmann books.
'Tiger Ace' is a huge waste of money. One could go on for ever criticising it, but basically the author has swallowed the German propaganda view of Wittmann hook, line and sinker with no original thought or analysis. Add to that, grammar which would be embarrassing in a second-year high school student and I am frankly amazed that Schiffer had the nerve to print it.
I paid full price for the ghastly thing and still cringe with embarrassment when I think of it......

Re: Wittmann books.
If it's any consolation, I did the same - just before I joined this forum. Actually, you'll find some reviews on Amazon which are even more uncomplimentary. To be fair, this is the only 100% clunker I've had from Schiffer ; maybe the author is married to the bosses' daughter, or something.....
