Alamein by Stephen Bungay 2002

Mostly, as the title suggests, telling of the El Alamein battle but as well going through the important steps before this decisive battle.Including several little details on lives of Churchill, Auchinleck,Montgomery and Rommel it makes a wonderful book with more life in it than just the usual statistics got together.

I truly enjoyed reading this and with some 250 pages once I started I had to read it in one go.
Took some three hours to finish, as I had to find my way with the maps, but it was worth it.

Recommended. Does not really require previous knowledge of Africa battles. Now I Understand why Monty got the job...

AS well some great details on Ramcke´s paratroopers´ action and the Italian Folgore para division. Don´t think there´s much elsewhere??

Thanks, Kai - I may look out for the book. Bungay's previous work about the Battle of Britain was truly excellent.

Yeah, the man has done a tremendous work for those 250 pages. It goes through every aspect, Rommel,Monty,Chruchill, Luftwaffe and Marseille, the propaganda section, Supply system, Egypt, Malta and its Battles. Yet the main weight is on the Battle of Alamein...And especially I love those little details mixed here and there making the book even nicer to read!
