I bought this book today for 50 cents.
It covers the North African campaign, and highlights turniong points, as well as great moves by respective commanders.

It is one of the Purnell's look at WW2 series.
Great book so far...

Those little Purnell/Macdonald books ( first published in the late '60s to coincide with the 'History of the Second World War' partwork ) are very good ( mostly ! ).

They were certainly not 'pot-boilers'; many of them are still cited in bibliographies of books published today. ( At the time they provided a very good source of income for noted WWII historians some of whom, like John Keegan, were relatively unknown then and have gone on to greater things since ).

I have a whole load of those books here which I have bought quite cheaply - you just have to be careful because the spines can fall apart...

Martin-It does look like a very inforamtive read, and what grabs me most, is that the photgraphs (some of them anyway) are not ones that are published over and over, so they add a sense of 'newness' to it all!!! (Is newness even a word!!!)

Enjoy the read, Panzerknacker. Major Macksey MC is an acknowledged authority regarding armoured warfare.

Just browsed through my collection of these books again - they were really good for their time ( I remember buying a couple 'new' when I was a schoolboy ).

The quality 'tailed off' a little toward the end of the series, but the list of authors remains impressive ( Keegan, Blumenson, Charles Macdonald, Ian Hogg, Brig. Peter Young, Noble Frankland, Maj.-Gen. Essame, Richard Holmes etc etc - not to mention the excellent Eastern Front titles by Geoffrey Jukes ).

The original magazine partwork was pretty , too !
