Gents, check this if you are interested in WW 1 aviation. I know it's OT but......

www.wwiaviation.com/books/page1.shtml

Carl, go to page 6, the first book is the Classic on the Jasta's from what I have heard. Many colour profiles and covering the colored tails which designated the Jasta seperations.....

enjoy !

That reminds me, Grub Street just got their new catalogue out.

You can go to their site and order one for free @ www.grubstreet.co.uk

Some interesting titles.

As to WW1 aviation, I can use my new mantra: Uuhhhmmmmmm.....Gotta focus on established fields of interst...Gotta focus on established fields of interest....Uuhhhmmmmm.....

German Knights of the Air 1914-1918: The Holders of the Pour le Merite.

The Jasta Pilots: Detailed Listings & Histories, Aug 1916-Nov 1918.

Under The Guns Of the German Aces.

Carl, if you want to see some pics of ww1 and later bi planes still flying, go to the Shttleworth collection on your browser. Lots of pics of aircraft from that time still in flight today.

Thank you mate--I appreciate that. I'll check first thing in the morning when I get here. I'm looking forward to seeing what is still flying.

Just last Saturday, there was a 1 hr Doc on who shot down the Red Baron, which was played I think on The Discovery Channel.

In their reinactment of a ww1 airial battle--they had two ww1 aircraft (originals) that were used. It was wayyyy too cool, and it was a great thing to see that some ww1 aircraft were still airworthy.

Nice site.

On the I think the A&E Channel--or either the Discovery Channel--they have a program called: Junkyard Wars.

Just lastnight, I watched the one they played and they had three teams. One from England, one fronn France and one from the USA.

They had to find parts fo make three flyable aircraft--out of the junk at this junkyard.
Well, all three teams built old style aircraft.

The one the French team built--lookes like the 1909 Bleriot ZI pictured on the site you gave.

The one the American team built looked like the Bristol Boxkite--also shown on that site.

The British built a Bi-plane--but I don't remember what type it was.

Anyway, all three teams built their machines. The British team got 1st place as they did have the best flyable aircraft.

The French came in second--as they had just managed to get their aircraft across the finish line.

The USA came in last because they didn't cross the finish line. However, they were in the air for I think 1 minute and several seconds. The French team didn't keep their aircraft in the air continously for the 30 or so seconds it took for them to fly from start line to finish line. They had touched ground twice.

The British tema had an easy victory. Their bi-plane handled VERY well. The Amis had trouble with distribution of weight, and the French had problems with their propeller balde cracking in half--which was glued together and strengthened with thick string.

I saw it--nice profile. I wouldn't mind having it but, I would like to have it with a few other ww1 aircraft-like the Sopwith Camel or something like that.

just got back from a miserable trip 35 miles to our so-called local Barnes and Noble. Man, they have moved everything around and they had the gall not to ask me ! Dang I should be surfing today......

the only osprey title they had was the Fokker DVII, and they had two copies. i really cracked up on that as they had a couple of dozen titles and they are all gone. Probably sent back since they didn't sell I suppose.

Enough of my bitching, anyway Carl the new title does look very good. I do think Osprey is finally getting a handle on production and the pics and making the history/text much more interesting than before.......good for them !

Yeah--they keep rearranging the books here without my permission as well. But, sometimes I get a little revenge on them by finding books and then hiding them--untill I have time for further perusal and the money to buy.

Sneaky, ain't I? This deserves a Knights Cross or three..........

Angry

I'm going to have to go back and just sift through all the shelves as half of the book store has been re-arranged and not to my liking one bit.....!

Carl you sound like one of those characters that roams the library moving titles from row to another.....shame on you

on the topic I received a wonderful Ju 388 profile from Austrian Simon Schatz. Sorry I cannot even put it on this site as it is somewhat of a secret. If this guy could take time and do up some WW 1 a/c profiles......whoa ! He told me that it took him 2 months to complete this one profile through photoshop.
