I'd seen these magazine-sized publications before but hadn't bought ( now, much to my regret ).

But at Duxford yesterday I bought copies of numbers 4 and 5 and have had much pleasure from them !

It's a very high-quality magazine ( in German and English ) dedicated to reproducing rare Luftwaffe photos with specific research. Paper quality is very high and quality of reproduction is superb.

For the aviation archaeologist, there is the painful inclusion in No. 5 of two stunning colour-transparency views, taken in mid-1945, of the remains of aFw 190 dumped at reims.

The photos are so clear, you almost feel that you could walk across and help yourself to some souvenirs - 60 years too late, though !

Their website ( in German ) is worth a look : -

Axel Urbanke is a neat guy and is the author of Green Hearts the masive book on III./Jg 54 and JG 26 flying the Dora 9. Axel is working on a book covering Normandie up till the late fall of 44 about III./JG 54 as well as in conjucnction with Dutch author John Manhro covering the Luftwaffe unit JG 6.

the Luftwaffe im Focus although covering a wide range of subjects has some excellent photo content........... good one Martin !

I didn't realise he'd written books as well.

The magazine is excellent ; nicely-written and goes into great detail. I shall be on the look-out for the missing parts 1-3....

aren't the first two out of print ? ah heck you would probably find them available in a sooner state than me. One reason why I have a problem living in the US of A when publications from Europe abound.......consider the clasic pubs 2nd TAF volume 1. when will it ever get here.....next year ?

They're out of print sure enough - but as usual, I shall leave no stone unturned....

Just had the good fortune to find Issue #1 in a London bookshop.

This really is a most excellent publication - definitely NOT in the 'read and throw away' category. So refreshing to see photos which are totally new to me - many in colour, too.

Now for the two missing copies.....

No. 7 is now on sale at specialist aviation shops.

I love this magazine !

This one has some wonderful Bf109 photos and an article about the 'Desert Snake' Stukas. But the real gems ( to me ) are rare, original colour photos taken at Munchen-Riem in May 1945 of a 'papagai-staffel' Fw190D of JV44 and a Do 335 'Pfeil' - an actual aircraft I had only seen aerial photos of at Riem until now.

Add many Eastern Front photos, articles in German and English, and a very nice photo of a Bf109G-6 on the cover....

Buy it before it disappears !!

many of the Würger staffel not parrot pics of Fw 190D's have been sold on ebay.de. Funny how that coincided with the sales of the latest of the L. in focus. The Do 335 is in the collection of J. Crandall or at least one of the colored pics is.

You're quite right, Erich - I checked out the discussion on LEMB...

For me, it's nice to have the photos in permanently accessible form, as well as being cheaper than the 185.- Euro BIN price asked on e-bay !
