I don't suppose there are interweb places with PRO documents like those of Operational Research Section 2 of 2nd Army are there? If there are, please let me know.

Thanks.

Lightbulb Re: Primary Sources

I'll be happy to be corrected if wrong, but at the present time I don't think there are.

There is a long-term project in hand to ultimately have all - or at least, most - of the enormous number of items at the PRO available online. As well as for practical reasons, the intention is to protect documents from continual handling.

But meanwhile, a trip to Kew is still necessary.....

You might find drips and drabs scattered about Squeeth but I think you'll be lucky to find much. Sommecourt (amongst others I'm sure) might have some pointers as he's more familiar with the PRO/NA and has turned up some very nice after action reports in the past.

N&MP sell facsimiles of stuff along those lines but they're few and far between and always quite pricey. There's one on the Administrative History of 21st army Group from 1946 I've wanted to look at for a while but it's proving hard to find, and as I only want to check one passage it's not worth the thirty odd quid to buy.

I'm building up to a first PRO visit, seems it just has to be done eventually .

Cheers,
Adam.

The National Archives have a site where you can get an estimate for copies of documents but the process is a cross between an assault course and a Special Branch trawling expedition. I lost the will to live . . .
