Recommend the best books about Battle of Bulge
Can't seem to find anything on this using search, so here goes...
I can find a few on ebay with good ratings like:
A Time for Trumpets: The Untold Story of the Battle of the Bulge
by Charles B. MacDonald
and
The Battered Bastards of Bastogne: The 101st Airborne and the Battle of the Bulge, December 19,1944-January 17,1945
by George Koskimaki
Are these two of the best? What others should I look for that are well written and offer insight into the battle. Thanks in advance!

Re: Recommend the best books about Battle of Bulge
I would not rely on just one book. On this topic, there are so many that I would read 3 to get an accurate picture of the battle.

A Time for Trumpets is a very good book. Read it if you can.

Noted...I guess I should rephrase to say recommend some good titles as "jumping off points" for the Bulge conflict.
Thanks

I'd suggest The Longest Winter by Alex Kershaw and A Blood-Dimmed Tide by Gerald Astor.

Re: Recommend the best books about Battle of Bulge
The best starting point probably is 'A Time For Trumpets' - it's very good. After that, Pallud's massive book, recommended by von Poop above, is well-worth getting hold of ; it contains much from the German point-of-view.
Another big book I'd recommend is the US Official History, 'The Battle Of The Bulge' by Hugh M Cole. This was reprinted in the USA fairly recently and has been available at low cost. Such Official Histories are often very 'dry' but this is an exception ; it's a great read and very detailed.
After that, there are many excellent books containing in-depth stories of individual actions and units - many of these have been discussed elsewhere on the Forum.

Yes, it is very expensive, and if you're not within easy reach of the battlefields it can be frustrating to read : you will want to visit these places ! But it's a great book.
Kai's recommendation for Reynolds' book about Peiper is also worth considering. The title makes it sound like a biography of Peiper whereas in fact, it is really a step-by-step account of Kampfgruppe Peiper's actions in the Ardennes.

Re: Recommend the best books about Battle of Bulge
I know I already mentioned some books but I discovered two more. They are Battle: The Story of the Bulge by John Toland and To Win in the Winter Sky by Danny S. Parker.

Re: Recommend the best books about Battle of Bulge
While not entirely devoted to the Battle of the Bulge (rather covering everything from D+1 to VE Day) Stephen Ambrose offers a great perspective of the battle from the GI's perspective in Citizen Soldiers. I read this a while back but I remember it being good reguardless. Keep in mind though that it is virtually all told from the American point of view.

Re: Recommend the best books about Battle of Bulge
Just in case any of you were wondering where I began my "Bulge Reading"....
I ended up choosing Battle: The Story of the Bulge by John Toland . It's the one that was written before a lot of the classified documents were made public about the battle, but of course those of you who know more than I do already know this. Anyway, it is a very readable account, especially for someone like myself who doesn't know much about the battle other than what I've seen on the HIstory Channel or in movies. I'm about 150 pages in....those poor guys in the Schnee eiffel (sp?)
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with this topic!

I would also recommend "Ghost Front" by Charles Whiting
A review of it
