Thumbs up Falaise book revised.....

The French-language book 'Le Couloir de la Mort' ( 'The Corridor of Death' ) is well known to 'Falaise' enthusiasts. Originally published by Heimdal a few years ago, the authors were Georges Bernage and Ronald McNair.

In Normandy recently, I noticed a new reprint and bought a copy more out of curiosity than anything else, assuming it to be a straight reprint.

Back home and having had a chance to compare the two - not so !

The authors of the new book are listed as Georges Bernage, Frederick Leterreux and Philippe Wirton, and with help from Jean-Paul Pallud. The book is in slightly larger format, and the number of pages has increased dramatically from 80 to 168. The photos from the original are all incorporated, but some of the best photos which have been unearthed in the Armes & Militaria 'Hors Serie' collection have been included, and earlier actions such as Mortain are now there too. There are a lot more photos of wrecked Panzers and transport in the Pocket, and there are even some nice 'Then & Nows'. They've also unearthed some aerial shots from the IWM which I've never seen before.

Overall, well-worth getting even if you have the previous edition. If you're 'into' Falaise, essential - it's worth the money just for the photographic research.

ISBN of the new edition is 978-2-8404-8217-8.
