Duxford Military Bookfair
Visited the annual military bookfair at Duxford today.
Took a moment to step back from the stalls and take a couple of snapshots of the interesting backdrop....
No - they're not Photoshopped.....

Awsome. Wish we had something similar in Portugal.
In the second pic, that's the tail of an SU right?
Cheers...

No...it's an SR-71A Blackbird.....
( This aircraft was built in 1966, holds the World Record for altitude in horizontal flight - 85,069ft - is on loan from the USAF and is the only Blackbird on display outside the USA )

Re: Duxford Military Bookfair
What a treat. Are the books aviation-related only, or are there other military subjects ? Up til a few years ago, there was an annual military book and paper show here in the Washington/Baltimore region, with usually 20-30 booksellers selling mostly used books - I always found some finds. Alas, the gent who sponsored it every year decided to call it quits, and nobody picked it up. You are fortunate to still have such a show - and what a venue !

Re: Duxford Military Bookfair
I know the blackbird hence my question. The back radar of the SU-27 family is quite similar but paying a closer look I notice it was just the perspective as the Sr has a much wider tail and engines more appart.
Anyway, any good finds while you were there?
Cheers...

Re: Duxford Military Bookfair
To be truthful, the selection of books was a little disappointing - most of the dealers are finding it hard to get stock of really scarce books. I did get a couple of memoirs of Swordfish pilots and an interesting pamphlet about HMS Hood.
Apart from that, my best find was a scarce motor racing book from the 1970s at a very cheap price - the dealer didn't really know what it was !

Tell us more Martin. I collect motor racing books of the '60s and '70s too.

Re: Duxford Military Bookfair
We're probably going 'way O/T, but the book which I was so pleased to get was the 1974 autobiography of Mark Donohue, 'The Unfair Advantage'.
Most people on here have probably never heard of him, but the chapter headings alone bring back a rush of nostalgia : ' Cobra - Ford GT - Mustang - Camaro - Lola T70 - McLaren M6B - Ferrari 512M - Porsche 917/10 & 30'.
I only saw him once - at the 1975 British GP just before he was killed in Austria. But in my schooldays spent devouring Car & Driver and Autosport, he raced all the right cars.....

Ah, excellent photos, especially the first one with the B-17! Sorry that the book selection wasn't more to your liking. Thank you for posting!
