I have been avoiding this one because of it's pretentious title(I did meet some great people amongst those Depression/WWII people-but there were many more who were just so/so and some more who were just plain turds-in short, a normal population grouping...now the times they went through were pretty extraordinary! And it is almost a unanamous opinion amongst my parent's generation that WWII was a big party after being kids during THE GREAT DEPRESSION);
Powell's Books - The Greatest Generation Speaks by Tom Brokaw MOREOVER; I have had occaission to come to a low opinion of journalists in general and to distrust completely their objectivity (and yes Max Hastings was a journalist but he was a military man first).
But I did read Ambrose's "Citizen Soldiers" and found it pretty engaging. So...I am thinking that this series of personal accounts might make for a good read-...So..how bad could Brokaw screw these stories up? If these are real vets tales I would guess that there might be something of value in this book.
