Hi Mate, I talked with two of the bigger book dealers I buy from and both loved the book and said it is one that should be included in any collection. I plan on buying it in the next few months.
These two dealers are: www.aberdeenbookstore.com and i'll have to look up the others site addy next time I can visit.

Re: Fallen Soviet Generals,
Hi Mate, let me know what you think about it when you get it? If it has a comprehensive list of names, dates and actions and units and such-I DEFINATELY want it. Having something like that could greatly help out in cross-referencing Soviet units and such that I do from time to time. ;:-))

Re: Fallen Soviet Generals,
Thanks Mate. Also, if you can, when you get it in, can you let me know the total number of them please? ;-)) Im going to be attempting to access a Russian site that lists all of the Hero of the Soviet Unions-awarded to date and I want to try looking up how many of these Generals were awarded that award.
I forgot to ask but-about how much was this book priced at? Reason im asking is because after buying (if it goes through) that DKiG book by Patzwall and Scherzer-im going to have less than $100 to work with till next month. ;-)) I just bought some PzGdr Offz tabs which was an unexpected purchase for this month ;-)) Im also having to make sure I set aside more money because there is another purchase (unexpectedly) that im going to have to make on another militaria item I need. I still haven't heard back on this one yet.

Re: Fallen Soviet Generals,
Hi Mate, that's a good deal. I do want a copy but will have to wait till after I finish paying for the 2-vol set of books listing the DKiG/DKiS guys, as well as the 1st vol of Niemanns book on the Pour le Merite. After these are paid off-im game for more books ;-))
Take care my friend-HAPPY FATHERS DAY/WEEKEND-and hope it's full of John Wayne movies for you ;-D

Re: Fallen Soviet Generals,
Carl, book came to my door today and after having a look through, thus far I can tell you the following information total number of General officers killed is 235 of those 223 died as a result of enemy fire, there are 15 tables ranging from types of service to location at time of death to name but two.Until I auctually read it im unsure as to weather the book details the deaths of each general or focuses on just 50 of them as there are pictures of 50! but it is a excellent book no doubt. On the question of medals and awards I have seen mention but will need to delve further. The first part of the book that grabbed my attention was the death of Major General A.F. Levashev, commander of the 4th Airborne corps he died on the night of the 22 february whilst on a night flight during the Rzhev-Viazma offensive not only was he found dead at the conclusion of the flight following an attack by a German night fighter but the plane contained the entire corps command group and had the night fighter shot down the plane the corps would of been left without its entire command and directing staff.Hope this helps a bit mate but I will post more as I find it.Jason

Re: Fallen Soviet Generals,
Having delved further it seems that there are more volumes to follow detailing the Generals killed by Stalin and those who died in captivity, having said that combining those totals with those already mentioned above the author states that previously secret russian documents place the total figure at 428.As for the matter of weather all 235 killed in battle are covered in the book the answer is yes and where and when and how is also covered.

Re: Fallen Soviet Generals,
IF a General among the 235 that died was awarded Hero Of The Soviet Union it tells you, seems that in some parts of the book in 2 pages it will cover as many as 6 Generals and on another 1 or 2 Generals with more details. And in some cases such as General A.A. Vashkevich, who was promoted Major General posthumously,it gives his awards which were, Hero of the soviet union for action at Dnepr river 9 September 1943,two orders of Lenin, and an order of the Fatherland first degree.

Re: Fallen Soviet Generals,
Hi Jason, when you get to feeling better and if you see this post-please do me a big favor and post say, two examples from this book-(pick any Generals you wish) and post sketch info on them as the book has it. I have a line on a copy but don't want to invest yet if I don't have to-thanks to a few expendatures that came up just in the past few days as well as in the past couple of weeks.
If its good enough and to what I need, ill go ahead and buy it but can't really afford to do so because im paying off three expensive book purchases (which leads me to start a seperate thread because...((read new thread for more ;-)) and also the purchase of a nice Silver IAB award doc to a man who was awarded his Silver IAB while in a Penal Battalion ;-))

Hi Mate, this info is excellent and exactly what I want. This would go great with the Armies of the Bear OrBat books im collecting. I can't wait till I can have that complete series because then I could cross-reference the Commanding Generals listed in your book-with these.
Thanks mate-the info you gave more than made up my mind on getting this book-I owe ya ;-))

Re: Fallen Soviet Generals,
My pleasure Carl, I enjoyed the book it was different for me as I have not really looked into much ref the Russians in WW2, think I will have to find out more on the eastern front plus although it was only a little research I enjoyed that too.Jason

Re: Fallen Soviet Generals,
Hi ate, thanks again and, i'd highly suggest if possible to still get? get a copy of Island of Fire and also of Penalty Strike. Both were great in their own ways and one from both points of view as best as Jason mark could do, and the other strictly from the Soviet PoV.
I have not yet figured out what I need the most of the ones im interested in-at least 150 titles) but as soon as I can figure out the direction I need to go in-and let me savings catch up a bit ;-)) ill give reviews on those books too. I am thinking that I probaby should get the Fallen Sovite Generals book as my next book-along with the Rumanian and Finnish OrBat Books ;-))
