Ive had a couple replys to emails Ive sent to the distributers of several DVD war movies, and the man who replyed said that The Winter War (Talvisota) was in-fact coming out on DVD some time in mid-February.

I vowed I wouldnt buy it on VHS and I would wait until it came out on DVD to see it. Kinda ironic...

I feel stupid for asking this, is The Winter War a movie or a documentary?

I collect documentaries, and have about 300 or so just on WW2. The Winter War sounds like a documentary to me-even though I have never seen it.

Its actually not a documentary, but rather an ultra-realistic depiction of the war on film, so Ive heard.

Here it is at Amazon : http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...788337-1891912

Dear Gibson-thanks for the link, I think im going to buy it.

Dear A.GREG: Ive been collecting ww2 documentaries when ran on various stations for about 6 years now. I remember the first one I taped was World at Wars Stalingrad episode, ive been hooked ever since.

Actually, I think I may have over 500 documentaries on tape which includes a few extra copies (by accident).

I have almost the complete run to World At War.
Complete runs of Battleline, Victory At Sea, The Eagle and the Bear, Secrets of WW2, Tales of the Gun, Greatest Fighting Machines of WW2, Secrets of War, Foot Soldier, Greatest Fighting Ships, Arms and Armor, The Axis and The Allies, Histories Mysteries(war episodes) True Action Adventures(war episodes) The Korean War, The Forgotten War, many Nova wartime episodes, then hundreds of short week long series and 2 hr specials.

These range from Developing of Cannon, """" of Gunpowder, The Phalynx, to Hannibal, to POW escapes, to hr long docs on dozens of famous military leaders and heroes, The Revolutionary war, Andersonville and Libby Civil War prisons, to the seven German Uboat sailors executed for murdering a fellow POW, to several on the Hood, Bismarck, Graf Spee, Lexington etc etc to the Flying Tigers, the Kachins, ths Kokoda Trail, etc etc etc.

Sorry my answer was long but now you know of about 1/5th of my sources for info.

I still add a few documentaries a month to my collection and are looking for anything new such as the current Rivits series on the History channel. I missed all of the ones on the Guns of WW2 but will get them next time.

I might add I also have all of the Battlefield series 1-4, and most of the Battlefield 2 series. There are the best I have ever seen. I am badly wanting the first version of The 20th Century ww2 Doc series (the version with Walter Kronkite narrating).

Excelent, thanks for your link Kai, it looks very interesting, and the re-enactment looks very accurate.

I was pretty amazed by these images of straffing polikarpovs, I'm wondering what model is the twin engined bomber just before this, it does not look like an early Pe2, maybe a SB-2 bomber ?

Question Re: "The Winter War" going DVD

Yes, it could have been SB-2 but then again often in these films they might put whatever they get flying in the air and perhaps fix it on the mixing table...

Anyway, now that many have had their chance of seeing the " Finnish view " I wonder what they think about it..
