Has anyone on this forum watched the movie: "The Odessa File?" I was wondering what you thought about the movie?

You know, I watched that film only because some group assisted in my grandfather's immigration to the U.S. via Bolivia. He never told me what group helped him but did say the group helped alot of former SS. I thought ODESSA was fiction. Is it?
As for the movie, I thought it was good. Kind of 'way out there' to be true as far as a journalist infiltrating the organization. I still liked the movie.

I have always enjoyed such films as this one. I watched it for the first time back in November. My cable connection kept failing, so I had to wait to see it come on again.
The actors did a great job, and the on location shooting helped much. Since my recent vacation to Germany, I was able to understand certain mannerisms better than I could have had I had no Germany experiance.
I thought the added touch of having a Knights Cross Recipient as a footnote to what was to become a major part to the story, was a nice touch. Also, I liked all the actors in the movie especially Jon Voight, Maximilian Schell and Maria Schell.
I was disappointed to discover that Hollywood Video will not order the movie for someone to purchase or to just rent. I wonder if Blockbuster is any better?

I forgot to answer you question. As to wether it existed or still exists, I dont know. There was a documentary on the history channel about it though. They also touched on another organization called Der Spinne.
I tend to think that ODESSA does exist and there is no telling what other organizations might have existed also. Im sure there were other "underground railroads" too.

Liked the movie, but as in many cases, the book was much better. The movie, due to time constraints, had to leave out a lot of interesting sidelines to the plot.

Do you know where a poor person as myself can get a copy of that book? I have never seen a copy but would like to read it. I am interested in finding out what was left out.
I am intrigued by that movie. I would like to see Hollywood come out with a good remake with a good cast. Now that Ed Harris is popular again, I think he could be good as the Muller character, or better yet, as the Schell character. What do you think?
