if so, please let me know what you thought about it. An inquiring mind needs to know.

I saw it Carl. All I can say is this: Oh God please not again!!
The film is a love story with the backdrop of WW2. The attack scenes are very well done, but there are two weak love stories in there too. Go see it, but be aware that history has again fallen victim to Hollywood.
In short, they tried to make a war film and a romance, and neither was done well.

Dear Otto: Thanks and thats what i was afraid of Last night on the 10 o' clock news, they did some stories about the movie. They interviewed a few PH vets living here in Corpus Christi, and all of them absolutely hated it.
I think I will either save my money for future militaria purchase or go watch Enemy At The Gates again on monday as its still playing here and making money.

Carl, overall it is a bad film, but he attack scene is one of the best ever! Go see it just for that, especially while it is in the theaters.

Thanks, I am also trying to be open-minded about the movie. Look at all the negativity that U 571 and Enemy At The Gates had? Before I saw either of them, I had heard alot of negative and some positive things about them. I went and sew them myself and liked them both alot--I didnt go for historical accuracies, I went for the pure fun of watching a war movie.

For all Pearl Harbor's shitty faults, it's another solid WW2 release, and that can't be bad!

Glad to see you here Ryan. just don't mention that you liked it, to any Australian WW2 vets. I feel about it as they do.
I admit the action scenes were good but the rest......
I agree with you Peppy-at least its another new ww2 movie.

Pearl Harbor with Enemy at the Gates have both left a lot to be desired but still got my butt in a movie theatre seat.
If I had to pick one, I'd probably pick Enemy at the Gates, although every new WW2 film I see I appreciate SPR more and more.

Alright!! Way to go Peppy!!! If they shortened PH by about 30 minutes, I think I would easily still go for EATG. PH, is out for me because of the LACK of accuracy and too many cheapened things in the movie like the newer classes of Destroyers shown--they should have used some good models.

Well, I gave up after 45 minutes.
Pure, unadulterated, cr*p ! I felt as though I was watching an 'Airplane' -type spoof with every old war-movie cliche laid end-to-end, loaded with mushy sentiment and overpadded music. YUK !
And then, we come to the 'Battle of Britain' sequence, with the Luftwaffe bombing 'downtown London'(sic) in broad daylight, but in the Summer of 1941.....b*ll*cks !
Thanks, but I'll stick to 'Tora!Tora!Tora!' ....

The actions scenes are quite good, though...
Martin, good you didn't watched it. You might have thrown up by the sickening love story... Even corny and girly Friedrich didn't like it!
I'll stick with "The English Patient"

Interesting that with the action scenes, on the 'small screen' the aircraft really didn't look 'real' - more like something from FlightSim...
The whole 'RAF' scenario was totally ludicrous. And as for the 'love story' - well, Hollywood ( ot the audience ) yet again confusing 'emotion' with 'sentiment'.
Basically, a 'kiddies' film for adolescents only.
Hell - it was even worse than 'The English Patient' ; and that's really saying something !

Now, seriously. It is a very, very lousy film. Its backbone —the story, screenplay and acting— are terrible... even worse than "Titanic"... So, the millions invested in special effects did almost nothing to improve it...
I think we all agree that if we are going to watch a good film about the Battle of Britain and a very good love story, then let's watch "Dark Blue World".

That's an insult to chicks...
I still haven't recovered from the BofB being moved back a year to suit the script....

No - I meant the ersatz 'Battle of Britain' scenes in 'PH' which seemed to be happening in 1941....

A friend gave me the 2-DVD set of "Pearl Harbour" and watched it for the first time in DVD…
All I have to say is that after "Troy" I finally managed to like "Pearl Harbour"…
I still think that the story is lousy, unoriginal and too forced. But the script is not bad at all, then I saw that it was written by Randall Wallace… that explains everything!
Remember "Brave Heart"? According to that film William Wallace was the father of King Edward III, even if the latter's mother was 12 years old by then… | |
