I was only 9yrs old (I am 18 now)when I saw it and I didn't know what it was called then.

Here goes. Set in World War II on the Western Front. It was winter time as there was snow all round, it could have been around the time of the Battle of the Bulge.

There is a scene when one of the American soldiers spots a figure in the distance they move in to investigate it turns out that there are two frozen corpses one German and one American they had both died fighting each other.

Then there is a scene where the group of american soldiers enter a deserted chattoe(spelling?) they find wine. They set up defensive positions around the chattoe and send out patrols.

A group of German soldiers appear and the spook the Americans by throwing handgranades (which turn out to be snowballs on the handgranade stick), the Americans realise that the Germans are not out lookin for a fight and they decide to work together to create a scene for a fake battle so that neither side would be punished for fraternising with the enemy, they procede with shooting into the air to make it look like a real fight had taken place, when the American's shell-shocked Seargent appears and thinks that his buddies are in trouble. He procedes to shoot up several Germans, who inturn, thinking the Americans have gone back on their promise, shoot up the Americans.

There is another scene which I remember.
They are wearing white camoflage clothing and they are carrying a body, they then pump blood out of the, as yet, unfrozen coprse and draw red crossed on their backs.

If anyone recognises the plot please could you tell me the title of this film (which I have wanted to watch again for a hell of a long time).

Im not sure but, it could be a movie called: A Midnight Clear, or something like that. I never saw it, but thats what it sounds like from your description and from what I have heard about it. I think the movie had Kevin Dillon in it, or Kevin Bacon?

The film was on British TV a couple of years ago but I can't remember the title. It is set during the Battle of the Bulge, but that's all I can say.

"Noites Calmas", in English I think that is
"A Midnight Clear" directed by Keith Gordon.

I rented this today based on what i heard from this thread and must say that I havent seen anything like it before. It was amazing in its simplicity and thoughtfulness.

I wont get to emotional in the review, but this film really was touching to me, and Im glad I heard of it on here. The best part, is that it was clear that not everyone in the Wehrmacht were Nazi's (in reality the majority were not), and it showed that even the 'enemy' had a heart and felt much the same way about the war as the West did.

Very thought provoking, dark, and sad. Definetly worth the $10 price tag off Amazon.

Glad there is another enlightened person on this forum about the fact that not all Germans nor Austrians, were Nazis.

In fact, of a nation of about 80 million souls (in ww2)only less than 4 million, were ever in the Nazi party. Much less so with the Austrians. My math skills are very rusty, but thats around 8% of the population, and even then, alot of these in the Nazi party, were in it only for their living gains.
