What a good film!!! I have just watched it this weekend and I loved it, althought there is no re-coil anywhere and that sometimes the charachters appear in the middle of the action without cap, because they lost it and are running, but they have it again in the next scene... But, however, those are minor details... The story is very good, the effects and realism are very good. And God!!! Those uniforms!!! I loved them !!!

There's a big white catamaran in the background in one scene. Otherwise a VERY good movie!

For once I'll agree with Friedrich - I saw 'Bridge at Remagen' when it came out in '69 and still have it on video.
OK, it has its' faults but it's one of my favourites and keeps reasonably close to true events, has good acting, fairly accurate equipment. Also recommend the book it was based on by Ken Hechler.

For once?! To hell with y... !!!
It has a lot of good action and dramatic moments. The actings are quite fine. And the film makes you hate the SS more than I already do. We were doing the same stupid things than the Soviets in early 41... What a waste of men, officers and all in a so important moments.
By the way, were the M-14 (?) Chaffes so bloody fast?!

I thought it was a pretty good film too. I like the German Officers characters, played by: Hans-Christian Bleth, and Robert Vaughn. The opening scenes were well--WOW.
For those who have been awaiting for well-over a year--I am now attempting to get pics made from my Cross of Iron film cells--I will know if it is possible in about 2 weeks. Good combat scenes. Ill send copies of pics to otto for posting--providing the lab they were being sent to, will develope them.

As a side note--did you know that Admiral Erich Topp (RKT and former uboat ace) lives in Remagen, and not very far from the bridge in question.

WOW, Carl! He is still alive and now he is an Admiral?!
But another detail on the film: The opening scene is placed in a headquarters in which GL Von Brock is told to blow the bridge by another general Von Sturmer (according to the credits). He is called Herr Feldmarschall, but he is NOT wearing Generalfelmarschall's shoulderboards or stripes!!! Althoght he is wearing a nice RK mit Eichelaub.

Yep--Erich Topp is alive and well. He became an Admiral in the West German Navy. He also served with Nato as well as Erich Hartmann, Gunter Rall and Johannes Steinhoff, among others.
Not all GFMs wore batons on their shoulders--some even wore Generals Collar Tabs w/ only 2 fishhooks instead of three, and a few yet even wore standard Officers tabs--called Honorary Regimental Chef's, and these resembled standard Officers Collar Tabs.

You mush have an uncut version you saw. The version I have and saw starts out with a small armored unit of Americans coming down a farm road. Their Captain orders them to attack a farmhouse but they kinda refuse to do so as it is a trap. The Captain gets in his jeep and tries to force the G.Is into attacking and gets blown away--this is the version I have.

Well, that happens in the version I saw, too. It starts with the scene of the bowing of the bridge at Overkassel, then a scene at the German headquarters and then some Americans... But that thing of the captian happens like in the minute 15 or 20...

Prompted by the thread I just watched it again today on video.
Yes - maybe not as 'realistic' as SPR but still a very good war movie. Good cast, well-directed, even a good Elmer Bernstein score. It was shot in Czechoslovakia so it does actually look like Northern Europe and not Spain or something. They used a couple of genuine SdKfz 251 and attention to weapons detail ( MP40s, BARs, Panzerfausts etc ) is generally excellent.
And that opening scene at the Oberkassel Bridge with the Americans approaching....and I love the way the Remagen Bridge segues into the speeding Jeep scene as the opening credits end.
One of my favourites !

Finally we agree in something, my dear Martin!!!
The little details are very, very good. The uniforms and hand guns and some vehicles.
Just a bad thing, there is any recoil in cannons...
But the music is really nice, it reminds me Maurice Ravel's Bolero some times...
And the opening scene in the Overkassel bridge is excellent, with all the wounded soldiers in the train...
I can become a little boy and start yelling when I watch it.

Re: The bridge of Remagen
Up comes another old thread from the depths....settled down this evening, glass of red wine in hand ( and bottle close by ) and re-watched my video of 'The Bridge At Remagen'.
It really stands the test of time quite well - a very good war movie ( within its limits ). As well as all the goodies mentioned above ( weapons, uniforms, soundtrack, effects etc ) it has a stalwart cast of supporting actors ( Bradford Dillman, Bo Hopkins, Matt Clark, Steve Sandor etc ) which we don't seem to get too much these days....

Re: The bridge of Remagen
Thanks to you, WW, several valuable minutes which I could have spent doing something more important have just gone up in smoke.....

Re: The bridge of Remagen
I enjoy the sound made by the German guns & the American guns as well. You can watch the movie with your ears.
A good line is when the Major asks about the condition of the two reserve Panzer Battalions and the General answers...."Fully equipped." You almost have to spit to imitate that ...."phonic?"

Re: The bridge of Remagen
You know, you guys have consistently been accurate on what the good WW2 movie is, despite everyone's different cultures and background. I haven't seen this movie but after reading this thread, I will surely get a copy of it this week.
