Here's my top 5 list:
1) Battle of Berlin - No one under 18 allowed. Weak hearts and stomachs need not apply. This thing would be REALISTIC.
2) 12th SS - I would just love to make a film about this division.
3) Erich Hartmann - The world should know about the exploits of this man.
4) Michael Wittman - Dedicated to all you tank nuts.
5) Kreta - Enough said.

It would be about
Stalingrad. Actual focus would be on the battles not people
From Stalingrad to Berlin. Starts in Stalingrad and ends in Berlin. A lot of battles

My top one would be a really good movie about the Battle of the Bulge. Definitely not like the cr*ppy '60s version.
Focussing on KG Peiper and in style like a cross between Bridge Too Far/ SPR.
Hmmm....total worldwide audience would be around 523 ( us ! )

A "Volksdeutsche" family in Eastern Poland. After the birth of the first son, the mother is killed in the 1918 in the chaos of Revolution. In 1920, the father again marries a jewish Russian and she gives birth to another son in 1922 and two daughters later.
After German/Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939 the family splits up, with the older son becoming a convinced Nazi joining Wehrmacht and the second son a communist joining Red Army. In summer 1941, the family is trying to escape the advancing Wehrmacht, but strand in Leningrad. "My" movie would show the ways of each three: the nazi son, the son in Red Army, their Volksdeutsche/Jewish family. Great tragedy showdown in the end when both sons are dying somehow to save the lives of the rest of their family in encircled Leningrad.
A nice mix of battle scenes, tragedy, horror of war, guilt, love, forgiveness, holocaust.
After all this movie should make at least some $ to cover the production costs.
Cheers,

1. Mannerheim
2. Operation Typhoon- the men reaching the outskirts of Moscow
3. Tito vs Germans
4. Kreta definitely deserves a film
5. Movie on Iké+Monty+Bradley etc on the first 48 hours of Overlord vs the German commanders on their side, Rommel Rundstedt (and Hitler sleeping )
6.Speer
7.Waffen-SS guys in the end of the war ending up in Foreign Legion...
Just my kinda ideas to start with...

If I could make a film it would be:
1. The Russo-Finnish war told by a Finnish perspective.
2. About the Chindits in Burma during their raid against the Japanese.
3. The Wermachts (spelling check) invasion of Poland to the fall of France.

I definetly agree with the Battle of the Bulge movie done well. Having met SO many US vets of the battle, it's one of my favorites.
CBI campaign.
A good dogfight movie!!
Way more pacific movies in general. I hated windtalkers and 75% of thin red line. I'd especially like one about the average soldier in new guinea.

Definately movies made about :
Rommel starting when he was a youngster and going through his services in ww1-and ww2.
A series of movies starting when France fell and ending with the finally released German POWs in 1955. I would say that could be about 20 3 hr long movies

Good Idea Martin, force Z.....
Fits in with my Singapore bit nicely..
Seriously though we would all like to see a movie based on our likes etc, but what about the appeal to others..?
Not just for box office receipts etc, but for attracting none mainstream ww2 followers as well as us guys.
One Ive seen mentioned here that would possibly have attraction to all and keep interest probably Carls Rommels story from early age etc.
Another that just might appeal to others apart from us guys is the idea of one in first few days after Dday, the generals and their personalities etc...add a bit of peal harbour touch and let Kay Eisenhowers driver get to go to France with him...tent scenes and all...with a cessna made up to look like a Heinkel bomber to drop bombs on his tent...Err..Ill shut up then..but seriously carls Rommel might draw a bi partisan audiance?

1) Guadacanal, including the fleet actions
2) Kursk, split fairly evenly between the battle, and the preparations (Both Russian and German Headquarters).
3) Pearl Harbour, but with a poignant love triangle between 2 intrepid airman and a lovely nurse....oops, thats been done!

As well through reading all this war material I have begun to think there really was quite alot of resistance against Hitler in the end by the army! One could make a film on that plotting going around, even Rommel included ( Hollywood scheming ), and the high point naturally the 20th July bomb explosion.
I think it´s time to understand not all were pro-Hitler.( Actually how many were? Keitel definitely, Jodl until 1945...??)

I agree Kai. During the final months of the war when Hitler ordered so many "last stands" and he wanted his men to fight to the death, the men just thought "why, why fight" so they gave themselves up in their millions.
The ordinary German soldier wasn't loyal to Hitler, and all the men were really fighting for was for their comrades.

Night of the Generals - I saw it YEARS ago (like 10). Was that about the plot to kill hitler? Totally fictional?
I just wanted to agree CVM - A Battle of the Phillipines movie would be great. Or even a death march movie, although that would probably be way to depressing and violent to get much public audience.
Maybe a french resistance movie, kind of along the lines of some of the things in the longest day. I don't remember seeing one of those yet.

My choice would be a film on the low level raid on Ploesti.

Doc,
There is one brilliant movie about the French resistance ; directed by Jean-Pierre Melville who was himself a Resistance member.
Called 'L'Armee Des Ombres' ( Army Of Shadows ) it was shown with subtitles on the BBC over here several years ago and then.. I've never seen it again . It's famous, though, and there are websites which discuss it.
If ever you get a chance to see it - do so !

I'd like to see a movie about the battle for Budapest or about the German retreat from Russia and the bloody battles that followed. They would all have to be with German and Russian actors and not Ben Afleck or some other American/English actor.

I was chatting with Otto on icq recently, he mentioned a good subject for a film...Skorzeny! He was a tough dude and had involvement with various pivotal battles. I also can't think of any film that he's in, so he's fresh and unused.
My nightmare would be to see a ponce like Stephen Segal or JC Van Damme play Skorzeny. And you can just bet that someone in Hollywood would think that's it's a good idea. If some fancy-boy like either of those two ever played him, I'd honestly be forced to shoot myself in the skull. I'm serious, right into my thick, chihuahua skull.

Agreed, Peppy - Skorzeny's story is a case of life being more dramatic than fiction.
You're probably right about the casting, too. It'd be a bit like 'The Player' where Tim Robbins refuses to have the hero played by someone like Bruce Willis; Robbins gets fired and the film is made with...Bruce Willis.
Maybe it should be a German production in the style of 'Das Boot' ? That way Hollywood wouldn't get to screw it up....
