That German uniforms used on "Monty Phython Flying Circus" are better made, more realistic and accurate than in many serious war films! It even seems like if they used real militaria! I was quite surprised when I saw a chapter the other day where they are mocking Mr Hilter. The costume included all the Führer's awards and on the right spots.

Why can't Hollywood learn from those lovely 'maniacs'?

I saw that one too, the uniforms are fantastic. Ever seen the 'funniest joke in the world' one? The British and German uniforms on that were excellent.

You wanna see TWO great films with REAL German uniforms--please watch "A Time To Love and a Time To Die" and also "Decision Before Dawn." you can't get more real than to have used the real thing as they did in those movies.

Already wrote the tittles, Carl. I'll buy them if I can't get them over here (which is the most probable thing)

Well--if it's possible to pick up signals from turner classic movies--they do take requests for movies like American Movie Classics used to do.

They have a website which I think is www.turnerclassicmovies.com

Anyway--the mentioned movies are both excellent and they both used only the real uniforms and weapons and vehicles--etc.

A Time To Lova ANd A Time To Die starts and ends on the Eastern Front. The middle section of the movie takes place in Corporal Ernst Greabers hometown--which BTW--was filmed in real bomb-damaged ruins. This movie is in color.

Decision Before Dawn was filmed I think in 1950--and was filmed in actual war ruins and had many many very real and very working German vehicles as well as all uniforms were the real thing along with the insignia and medals.

Both of these films are the best I have ever seen as for the Real feel or look.

You will regret not seeing them if you don't watch them. Right now--I think only A Time To Love And A Time To Die--is only on VHS tape--and i'm waiting for the DVD--and I do not think Decision Before Dawn is on either yet.

OK. They seem rather good. I'll try to get them, even if they are in VHS, I don't mind.

And the militaria and vehicles stuff sounds really good. I was really pissed off when I watched again "Hart's War" (which I have just bought in VHS for $4) and saw that the German colonel had his Iron Cross I Class with its Spange, which meant that he had earned it in both wars but he had the red ribbon of the Iron Cross II Class on his chest!!! How the heck was he awarded EK I in WWI and EK II in WWII?!

The ek1 in ww1 already meant that he had the ww1 ek2, and to get an ek2 in ww2--that was entirely possible. My Arty Majors tunic has ww1 ek2 ribbon with ww2 eks2 Spange on it. Also in ww2--he was awarded the ek1 as well and w/ spange--judging from the loops that are on his tunic.

No, Carl. You didn't get it.

The colonel in the film is wearing his EK I (WWI) with WWII Spange, but he was wearing the red ribbon of his EK II of WWII!!! In case he had won EK II in both wars, shouldn't he be wearing the black ribbon of his WWI EK II with the WWII Spange?

Yes--"F"--I did get it as I was talking about MY tunic--not his.

To answer your other Q--Yes--he should be wearing the the Black and white ribbon for the WK1 EK2.

Now--what I do not remember about the film was him saying that he served in WK1--all I remember was that he was in a University here in the states sometime before the war started.

Now--his character certainly was old enough to serve in both wars--I just do not remember anything in the movie stating he was in both wars and my eyesight is not good enough to see if his cross was a WW1 cross.

Even though it is pretty rare--there were cases of soldiers in ww2 winning both EKs twice.

Carl, the German colonel in the film says several times that he served in WWI.

"I think I killed enough English and French during the last war" And he is always complaining about his wound in the knee that he got in WWI.

I admit--it has been since it was in theaters--that was the last time I watched it. I've seen many since then.

But anyway--the above mentioned is the only ways he could have the awards he mentioned or had, in the film.
