I've tried to come up with a comprehensive list of court martial, war crime trial and war-time mystery films, but I am sure I've missed some. Which one do you think is the best?

From your list of what I have seen I would rate them like this:
1) Paths of Glory.
2) Judgement At Nuremburg.
3) Andersonville.
4) The Caine Mutiny.
5) Night of the Generals.
6) Harts War.
7) Breaker Morant.
I either saw only parts of the others or not at all.
Some excellent ones you missed that I would put directly as the top are:
1) Time Limit. Set just after the Korean War and a US Army Officer played excellently by: Richard Basehart, was accused of treason while he was held as a POW in a Chinese camp.
His Defence Atty is played excellently by: Richard Widmark. There are a few other familiar faces in the movie as well.
This is the best of any Military Trial movies I have ever seen. I would say that the next one on the list should be Judgement At Nuremburg.
2) Sergeant Ryker. with Lee Marvin as Sgt. Ryker. This is also after the Korean War and Ryker is on trial for being a traitor. I only saw it once many years ago and remember nothing about it.
3) Sergeant Rutledge. with Jeffrey Hunter as a Cavalry Officer who is chosen to defend a "Buffalo Soldier Sergeant" who is accused of raping and killing a White Woman. Sgt. Rutledge is excellently played by Woody Strode. This movie is a post US Civil War movie--Indian action out in Arizona or somewhere like that.
If these three additions had been known by you at the time to be in your list, then my top 5 choices would be:
1) Time Limit.
2) Sergeant Rutledge.
3) Paths Of Glory.
4) Judgement At Nuremburg.
5) Andersonville.
Also, the newer TNT made for TV movie with Alec Baldwin--Nuremburg, was not actully a bad film, I enjoyed it--especially the parts where the American Lieutenant and his interaction with Goring. That was a nice touch.

Thanks for the additional films Carl!
Baldwin's version of Nuremburg was good, but not quite in the same league as the Spencer Tracy version, I think.

Great list!
My top two of those have got to be Paths of Glory and Night of the Generals, fantastic films with strong characters both.
Stalag 17 might be an investigation film if you stretch the definition.

Crapgame/Otto.
Quite welcome Crapgame, glad to hilfe. I know of others like the made for TV movie: Courtsmartial of Jackie Robinson? It was a TNT made movie.
Otto---Stalag 17?!? That is s-t-r-e-a-t-c-h-i-n-g it a bit. Still, it is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

I must admit I liked Balwin's "Nuremberg Trials" much, much better. It is very, very good and some of the defendants really look like the real ones.

Baldwins Nuremburg was OK because of having the originals on trial instead of made up fantasy trials like in the original. I like the original much better because of the good actors that were in it.

Re: Military Justice
Add 'Rules Of Engagement' with Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L Jackson. Watched it on TV last night ; very good performances but a bizarrely-quickly-wrapped-up ending - almost as if the director suddenly realized he only had 5 minutes' worth of film left and needed to get it over with.....
