This is the scene in Band of Brothers where a German General, just before surrendering to a Lieutenant in the 101st, addresses his troops, the way the Germans are portrayed is second to none to any American war movie I've seen.

Liebgott (Jewish US soldier in the foreground in front of Jeep) is translating to the officers behind...

Even though it's a norty mistake, I don't see a need to harp on about it too much.

Translation errors are a common misconception, and I'm afraid no Russian will ever be able to enjoy The Hunt for Red October, even though it's a great movie.

Now I really feel for the poor general, although, for a balanced view, I think the actors last part may have well been an extra at an emergency ward for Berlin's version or "Chigaco Hope" or "Holby City" and known nothing about military history.

And then, this is not the only problem, is it? From what I've read, in general Russian quotes in there are faulty, including the soundtrack, and Ukranian instead of Russian cyrillic letters, etc. - what did your Russian girlfriend say about this?

easy, that one is easy KM, HFRO was released in 1990. Russia had only just started it's long plunge into cold war defeat and there were much fewer Russian emigrants than there are today. My ex was a real mystery when she emigrated, in fact the first russian I ever knew so Hollywood either did not have many Russians to sanity check what they did, or (more probably) they knew no one would notice and didn't care.

Eisen. I did see that, most of what "Sean" said is unprintable here but I don't think I've laughed so hard in years.

Knight. Funny enough she didn't comment on that, I think she was too busy laughing/cringing. I think the part she thought was the funniest was the Russian Anthem, apparently it was sung enthusiastically, but to her it ended up sounding like a Japanese Karaoke version. [img]tongue.gif[/img]
