I'm so envious of someone who gets to see it for the first time. I had to track it down online, but I'm told PBS does occasionally play it.

Hi Scott, The Comancheros--YES. I never tire of seeing that movie. Today on AMC, I saw The Longest Day and they were also showing Hatari - which I watched until I needed to leave home.
Go For Broke is a great movie and in glorious black and white. I too watched this last night. This movie is also available on DvD.
Did you see the future Sgt. Schultz (of Hogans Heroes fame) as a German Officer that they captured. John Banners one line in the movie was: "What kind of troops are these? Chinese?" And Van Johnson answers: "Twilight fighters. Didn't you know that the Japs quit Hitler and joined us?"
Also, did you notice who played the Army Chaplain? This guy was none other than the future Father of Wally and Theodor (the Beaver) Cleaver.

Re: What have you been watching?
I watched the Top Ten Bombers on the Military Channel last night but ended up yelling at the TV when they showed the "Lancaster". For the film clips on the Lancaster, they showed a B-24, a Short Sterling, a Halifax, and a Manchester, all of them supposedy a Lancaster in action.
For the Mosquito they showed a film clip of A-20's !!
Who do they hire for these shows ?

Probably college grads who wouldn't know the difference between a Lancaster and Halifax if one flew over their head at low level, dambusters style. I can understand the Manchester footage (being as the Lanc was the result of tweaking the Manchester's design into something better), but A-20's and and B-24's?

World at War should be available in a local library. It is also available somewhat inexpensively from various sellers. Amazon has it for $55 but I think I found it on sale about 2 years ago for less then $30. It is well worth watching.
You should also try to get your hands on Victory at Sea, a 26 part documentary from 1952 that still holds water today. It is a great early documentary of the Naval engagements of WWII. It is available from Amazon for $23. It can be a bit overly jingoistic as I recall but still a great viewing experience.
