Re: What have you been watching?
Lately I've just been watching stuff on Alaska on the History channel. Not WWII (except for Attu), but still cool stuff. Go Alaska!

Re: What have you been watching?
Just watched a NON-John Wayne Western called: "Hang 'Em High" w/ Clint Eastwood. I admit, Clint's got to have some "airtime" sometime. ;-))

That's another good Clint film. Try Two Mules for Sister Sarah. I think you'd like that too.
I just watched last night a B/W WWII film called Air Force. It was about the crew of a B-17 bomber called Mary Ann. The story begins just before the raid on Pearl Harbor, relates how they escape from Clark Field and ends with the crew listening to a briefing on how their B-17 squadron will bomb Tokyo. Well, when the movie was made, the B-29 wasn't in service yet.
There's some touching and very human moments in the movie. There's propaganda against the Japanese, too, which includes a claim that some Japanese driving a vegetable truck rammed several parked P-40s in Hickham and Clark. What's noticeable in the movie is that they keep mentioning P-40s but what is shown on the airstrips are P-39 Cobras.

Hi Fal, yep, i've seen Two Mules..... and thought it was a good film. I liked how his enfluence made a ladt quit being a Nun. ;-))
The movie: "Airforce" is ok but, it's meant to be a very patriotical piece which easily makes it a "dated" movie. It's good for a time filler.
Forgot to mention that I watched Greg Peck in: "Purple Plain" which was an OK film but, not one of his best. Also, I watched Duke in: The Fighting Seabees.

Re: What have you been watching?
Last nite on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) was a troika of Sinatra war films:
Kings Go Forth - Sinatra, Tony Curtis and Natalie Wood - takes place right after the invasion of Southern France - kind of a 'love triangle with racial overtones' kind of plot - interesting show - not a lot of action - but, at the end, the Sinatra character loses an arm and the last few scenes of him as a one-armed serviceman are quite effective - I have no idea how they strapped his real arm down.
Never So Few - Sinatra, Gina Lollobrigida, Peter Lawford, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Paul Henreid, Dean Jones - Sinatra is an O.S.S. agent in Northern Burma training the local Kachin in guerilla operations. Needless to say, Frank and Gina hook up, but an interesting movie set in the jungles of Burma.
None But The Brave - Sinatra, Clint Walker and a host of Japanese actors - American and Japanese soldiers, trapped on a small Pacific island, must cooperate to survivie. I didn't watch this one - went to bed.

Re: What have you been watching?
I too watched: Frank Sinatra, Brian Donlevy, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Gina Lollobridgida and Dean Jones in: Never So Few.
I wanted to stay up and watch: None But The Brave w/ Clint Walker, Frank Sinatra, Ken Somethingorother (The Japanese Commander) but, it was on way too late and I needed to get my 40 winks.

Re: What have you been watching?
I watched Battle of Britain a few nights ago. It was a good film and kept my attention well past midnight. Great cast with Michael Caine and many others.
Also, I continue to rewatch episodes of Combat! It is still the finest WWII television series that I have seen.
Next up is Danger UXB, which originally appeared on Masterpiece Theater in 1979, I think.

None But The Brave is a very good movie. This is the first Pacific themed war movie, that I saw that had the Japanese Soldiers shown as human beings instead of all being Saki-soaked drunken mindless zealots. Oh and, all of them did NOT wear Coke-bottle glasses.
The only thing I could not stand about this movie, was the guy who played the US Marine Lt. Frank Sinatra as the Alkie Dr, was a hoot.

Hi Lou, his name is at the tip of my tongue but, I still can't think of it. I think he also played John Waynes "son" in In Harms Way--I think??

Ahh, another Gary Cooper fan!! Coops also one of my all-time favorites. It's been many years since I last saw this movie but remember it was a very good one. Also, this movie is alot alike: "Yellow Jack" which start Robert Montgomery. This one I think takes place somewhere near the Panama Canal-if I recall correctly?
Forgot to mention, tonights viewing will be the Pilot episode for the Incredible Hulk, TV series w/ Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno.
