I have persuaded three of my friends to join me in starting a once a month "war movie night". I had to promise plenty of "refreshments" if ya know what I mean!
Anyway, I would like to hear some suggestions since the first night I am in charge of the film selection. I, of course, will be choosing a WWII film. The agreement I have with these gents is that it can be a war film from any period. We are going to rate these films on such criteria as story line, acting, use of special effects and historical accuracy.
My first thoughts are to go with A Bridge To Far.
What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Depends what mood you want to set I guess. Films like The Pianist, Schindlers List, Das Boot and Stalingrad whilst all very good aren't really beer and pizza films!
Some war films, not necessarily WWII and not in any order, that I would go with are: -
Saving Private Ryan
The Great Escape
Glory
Full Metal Jacket
MASH
heh, I just read Otto's post about WWII films in this forum, look no further, hehe
There are so many to choose from! www.imdb.com lets you seatch by genre and their top 50 war films list is quite good.

Maybe I should have added that these three pals of mine have limited interest and knowledge of World War II. They liked my idea of the war movie night, but made me agree that when it was their turn they wanted to choose any war film from any war. I was thinking I needed to show them something obscure, but with a powerful impact that shows a good deal of history. Am I making any sense? Well, again, these are great suggestions all, now I just need to narrow down the list. I have until Saturday night, 8:00 P.M.

'Zulu'
'Breaker Morant'

We had a War Movie day where everyone brought their favorite movie. Like most history buffs, I tend to get particular and enjoy realism. I was pleasantly surprised at a movie called - The Beast.
It was a "B" movie filmed in the 80s about the Mujahideen stalking a Russian tank that fell behind.
It is different than the usual movies everyone brings but definitly a crowd favorite.
Just a thought!

Saw a screening on TV some years ago. They shoot-up a heard of goats or something one night when they think they’re under attack. Good film, worth watching.
You may also like the famous ‘Das Boot’ or ‘A Long Days Dying’?
