This old 1967 chestnut was on TV again this weekend. It was cold and rainy so found myself watching it.....
Laughable ! No apparent relation to history at all, and a wildy-miscast Rock Hudson ...loads of 'Arf a mo' mate, they're bladdy Jerries'-type British stereotypes , panicking Italian stereotypes , 'Ve haff vays...' German stereotypes....
Strange thing is, production values, especially some of the photography, is actually quite good. Why did they waste the money...?

Maybe it's a similar case to that of Desert Rats. I liked the film, but come on! It was pretty lousy at some moments…
Will have to watch it, though.

Martin,
Wasn't that the movie that re-used film of exploding oil tanks from another movie with a similar theme?

Well, I have to confess, Gordon, that I gave up about 2/3 of the way through.....
I think I know what you mean, though - wasn't 'Play Dirty' , was it ?

It's like Memphis Belle, which uses Battle of Britain footage, if I'm not mistaken…

I saw King Rat recently. Well acted, interesting point, otherwise dreadful.
Not seen the Tobruk one, anything with Rock Hudson in is given a wide berth, along with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. I like my actors to be able to act! *Ducks*

By coincidence, the movie I referred to RH ripping off was on tv a couple of weeks back.
Richard Burton was the star, and I think it was "Guns of Tobruk".
