Missing[?] movie footage

Every one has seen the 'infamous' 5 second clips like the guy getting shot on Normandy,the B-17 being shot up and so on.
I wonder where the rest of the footage is...never turned out maybe?
Sanitized as so the public does'nt see it?
Just wondering.

Probably the same place where the rest of the captured nazi archives are...or the missing pieces of Rommel´s diaries/letters taken by allied secret service men...Wonder if we ever get to see/hear of them...
