The Battle of the River Plate Dramatised documentary telling the gripping story of a deadly duel at sea and one of the best intelligence bluffs of WWII. Commodore Henry Harwood takes on Captain Hans Langsdorff and the pride of the German navy, the Graf Spee, in a battle of courage and wit. One would return home a hero, while the other would lose his reputation, his ship, and ultimately his life.

Just watched Time Watch on The Battle of the River Plate fascinating programme I know of the events, but not in full detail filled some holes in for me. Captain Hans Langsdorff made a fatal error to engage the British; he could have made a run for it. But one decision he made was correct, not to come out of harbour and engage the British again. Langsdorff saved his crew from certain death a man who had standards.

Yes, I thought it was a well-produced documentary. Interesting CGI and, as always, the veteran interviews were wonderful.

Ultimately a rather sad story, though. One can't help but feel rather sorry for Langsdorff. He seems like a man out of his time : his war a long way from area bombing, Einsatzgruppen & the A-bomb.
