I did like Windtalkers first battle part.. but then.. eh. Even as a crazy teenager who craves action, I wouldn't watch that with a HDTV!

I like the oldies.. 'cept the part that they didn't seem to care that the Tigers and Panthers were the same tank.. and that same tank was a American tank.. oh jeez.

I went to go see Pearl Harbor when it came out. It was funny to see plenty of people in the movie. Then the film rolls and about 30 minutes into the movie.. large portions of the crowd simple get up and leave. Quite honestly, I would say there was maybe tops 10 people left in the theater.

They did completely dismiss U 571, they did not care too much for Das Boot and, amazingly enough, the U Boat vets I talked with, liked: The Enemy Below; as their favorite film of this type.

A few of their reasons for that was that the Kapitan (Curt Jurgens) and the XO (Theodor Bikel) reminded these guys of how their Kapitan: Kurt Freiwald; was. They also appreciated with this film, that the German Submariners, were not depicted as fanatics-having only one member of that crew as being interested in Hitler's policies.

This is what they told me when we discussed these movies.
The enemy below is an excellent movie. The reason why the Kriegsmarine like the film is because of the camardery and honor shown in the film. Another good example of this is Battleground 1949( a good flick in this genre told from the American perspective.)

Hello Herr Oberst, I fully agree with your assessment about both films.

When I was at the reunion in 2000, I made it a point to talk with Dieter Hille and a few others about that film. This movie was the first Robert Mitchum movie I ever saw. Many a Friday or late Sat night, this movie was shown. This is also how I became a fan of Clint Eastwood (especially in movies like Kelly's Heroes and Where Eagle's Dare. Those two movies are what made me an Eaastwood fan partly because those movies are my first memories of him. It's too difficult to accurately pick the exact John Wayne movie-that I first saw and in which made ma a life long fan of his. Im thinking it's The Green Berets, or: The Alamo.

Not the worse movie, but the more I watch "Bridge at Remagan", the more I dislike it. Those US tanks lined up in a row knocking out the 88s up on the hill
seems unlikely. If those 88 crews had any kind of experience, those tanks would've been picked off one by one.

Somehow our stars find boats to sneak up on that river barge that has an MG 42 in it. Why not just blow it with a bazooka or a tank??
Just seems too over dramatic for me.

Enemy Below.

As a money maker I can find it difficult to find fault with him, As an actor he was okay in Minority Report(I like SciFi the good stuff like Blade Runner, Dr Strange Love, Clock Work Orange) but please....He's slightly better than William Shatner(Ie overactor) He's also not too bright in the lady department, He went from Big business to the Board meeting.

My current vote goes for, "Hitler Dead or Alive."

Filmed in 42 as an attempted moral booster, it's more of a low budget slapstick comedy to me.

A team of ex-con bounty hunters goes to Germany in search of Hitler. The flick closes with Hitler being shot by his own troops because they didn't recognize him without his mustache.

What's this about William Shatner? I heard he was a vocalist. Not an actor.

Speaking of the movie: "Hitler, Dead or Alive." Didn't this movie have Ward Bond in it? if so, it really aint that bad of a stinker if I recall. I have not seen this movie geeze, since I was a kid and they had shown it on PBS on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Also, I remember more that the characters dressed in Cowbuy garb and were the ones after either Hitler or either after a German spy-ring-or something like that? ANd I do remember that Ward Bond was in the film im talking about. Will have to do some checking on that matter.

Whiteflight, when did you see this movie? I have not seen it for over 30 years.

I saw it last month. Thirty years and you still remember the details? Impressive. You nailed it with Ward Bond. I don't recall the cowboy garb, just the gangster duds. Then again I was drifting off on paper work will trying to retain an interest in it. At the end Hitler was a whimpering fool.

Ahh, many thanks! No, I thinik I was wrong on the clothing worn. I think it probably was Gangster duds. I also remember that they seem to be hiding underground and that they came and went through a small hatchway? Anyway, I remember it as good wartime propaganda entertainment.

I always did like Ward Bond. Mostly when I saw him in something, he was always in Western duds or military uniform of somekind.

The link does not work for me. Do they have on their list the theme music from: The Final Countdown? I always thought that was a cool theme.

Hi Jeff, thanks. I finally could access part of one page using their unfiltered computer but I still can't "see" all yet. I'll explain in the PM. I appreciate that but, the library computers have high security settings (so I have been told) which would mean I can't listen to any of them and is why I can't access them here. I appreciate your wanting to help ;-))

PM sent on another matter--even Otto know's nothing about what I sent to you ;-))
