Here's a link to a list of all the World War 2 movies ever produced and from there, we'll discuss, mudsling, debate, argue and collectively choose the 10 most worthy ww2 films ever made.

Heres my ten:

1.) "Battleground"- probably THE most authentic WWII movie ever produced. (1949)
2.) "To Hell and Back"- Hey, I'm a sucker for the 3rd Infantry Division, more over Lt. Audie L. Murphy. (1955)
3.) "The Story of G.I. Joe- Awesome film with Ernie Pyle. (1945)
4.) "Guadalcanal Diary"- Great film on the Guadalcanal campaign. (1943)
5.) "Go For Broke"- Excellent film on the Japanese-American troops of WWII. (1951)
6.) "30 Seconds Over Tokyo"- Fantastic film on the Doolittle Raid. (1944)
7.) "Wake Island"- Excellent film. (1942)
8.) "Red Ball Express"- Great film on the lesser known importance of the truck drivers of the Red Ball Express and how well they kept the frontline units supplied. (1952)
9.) "Sink The Bismarck!"- Excellent film, on the clash of the Royal Navy with the Battleship Bismarck. (1960)
10.) "Hell Is For Heroes"- Awesome film, Steve McQueen, definitely plays the hardcore bad-ass veteran Infantryman. (1962)

I am surprised that you did not include 633 Squadron Martin ! That had some good flying footage.

633 has great flying footage, but even the most devout enthusiast has to admit that the script, love-story, etc is quite embarrassing. Sadly, a few terrific flying sequences do not a great film make.....

1.Saving Private Ryan
2.Patton
3.Band of Brothers (I know it was not a movie but was just as good and realistic as one.)

I've seen it only once, on TV, a few years ago. It's well-known for starring David Bowie in the leading role, and it's based on a book by Laurens van der Post.

I thought it was actually quite good, but POW films aren't really my cup of tea....

Not exactly a film but excellent non the less Theirs is the glory.

Other excellent war movies Black hawk down, We were soldiers, Paths of glory, Platoon

I read the book The bridge and would like to see the movie. Anyone have any idea where I can find it?

I'm surprise The Great Escape has been mentioned only once despite the fact this film is very well-known in comparison to other ww2 films. That said, my list is this.

2.Stalag 17 (gotta love the comedy & camaraderie in this)

7.Silent Night (a feel good canadian made Christmas ww2 movie, you gotta see it!)

How about "The Bridge on the River Kwai"? I like it.

Oh and also "Casablanca". I know it is a love movie. But the scene where they sing "Le Marsaillaise" is amazing.

My favorite film re WW2 is the documentry "Victory At Sea". Not the 26 part TV version but the superbly edited cinema version,with the commentry spoken by Alexander Scourby. Rarely see today but deeply moving.

Special mention for Band of Brothers, about as good as most on the list.

Ten is just plain too few for a "Best" list for me. I could never do it. However, a worst thread could immeadiately drum up quite a few titles. Some of which are very recent.
1. The Last Drop (Micheal Madsen has lost all favor with me)
2. Saints and Soldiers (too slow)
3. The Great Raid (so slow it made Firefox look like Dusk Till Dawn)
4. Thin Red Line (too much sean penn)
5. Windtalkers (probably because it stars nicholas cage)
6. Pearl Harbor (affleck just sucks in anything, not to mention those B 25's in the Tokyo raid)
7. Flags of Our Fathers (I just did not like it for the kind of movie that it was) etc, etc, etc,......

Pearl Harbor...take yer "Sweetie" for a joy ride in a government plane? Yeah right. (same for Flyboys) Those B-25s "4" 500 lb ers (each plane) exploded at least 3 times each.
Wind talkers...A hidden battery of 8-inch guns on a hill-top? Takes alot of shrubbery to hide a heavy cruiser.
In Harms Way...filmed entirely in the bathtub, though the part where Kirk Douglass slapped that Senators aid was good.
Anzio...every reason there is.
Back to Bataan...One squad holds off the Japanese army.
Dishonorable mention

Guns of Navarone...
Flying Leathernecks...P-51s as Japanese?
Battle of the Bulge... Good actors, Lousy history.
