I know this isn't WWII related, but I didn't kmow where else to post it.

I saw The 300 recently and thought it was absolutely great. I was a little bit of a charicature of the event, but I thought it was cinematically amazing. Did anyone else like it?

Only seen the ad on MTV but that really looked good and made me want to see it!

I did get the opportunity to watch the movie and enjoyed it... Though I must say the original, which if im not mistaken was actually German movie called 300 Spartans is the better of the two... My opinion at least.

At this point I only saw the ad, and it looked entertaining. I will probably go and see it. As long as you are not looking for something historic, you may like this version. By the way, Iran considered this movie as a declaration of war by Holywood.

At no point does the movie pretend to be an historically accurate movie. Its based on a Graphic-Novel - that sort of thing relies on imagery so of course depicts things rather extremely.

Cinematically, i think the movie is amazing! The Spartans almost come across as Homo's themselves, to be honest. Thats the feel i got. But thats besides the point. The way the movie was shot is just awesome. I love films like that.

PATHFINDER looks similar in the way it has been filmed too, cant wait till it comes out.

I have not seen the film yet but read that the actors just played in front of a blank blue background and a computer added all the background later on and merged it with the actors. They also said it was not really historicaly accurate but a good story of how it could have happened.

I also read that they could not marry until they were approx. 30 years old or visit women unless on the sly.

I saw some promotional footage and did'nt like the weird unatural colors, looks the same as Sin City which I found a awful movie.

Making a movie out of such a miserable subculture as comics can do no good (joking here - I just love to say "miserable subculture" as often as possible I have nothing against comics).

Anyway, I don't know if the Persians are pictured as androgynous, but Spartan are the one fighting in short skirts !

I hope the actors had all their belongings tightly kept in place while moving jumping and stunting around, otherwise the combat scenes might just be...curious LOL

One thing is for sure. Spartians were used to live with the minimum. All they needed was something to eat and to drink, not even a roof as they could sleep anywhere. They also cherished their weapons. All the rest was not needed, so when I see them with jewels and useless decorations, they are actually anything but Spartians. Yet, I told you it seems entertaining, like a cartoon.

I dont recall seeing them with jewels. And while it might be true that the Hoplite/Warrior Spartans could live like that when on the war path, i'm pretty sure when at home they lived under roofs and with some material items. I highly doubt they lived in a 'caveman'-like existance.

The guy in the picture (a few posts above) is the King of the Persians. He is supposed to be a demi-god, which is why he is about 10-feet tall compared to everyone else. The other person pictured is the Spartan King, who is a pretty big guy himself.

I saw this film. At first I didn't like it. It was because I thought it was based on the history of Thermopylae. Then I was told it was based on a comic book. So then I thought, ok, it was a decent movie.

The 12 foot tall Xerxes was a bit of a stretch, and for the life of me I can't figure out why on earth they would cast people who were obviously African or of African descent to play Persians. That was disconcerting. I can see how the Iranians might be upset over the African thing and the truly freaky way Xerxes was portrayed but hey, they've got to consider it was based on a comic strip too.

And, the Persian Empires of Darius and Xerxes and so forth were not the most noble in the world so they need to take a chill pill.
