'Black Book'
http://www.nydailynews.com/entertain...ly_futile.html
World War II drama about a Jewish singer who joins the Dutch resistance. With Carice van Houten, Sebastian Koch. Director: Paul Verhoeven (2:25).
Twenty years after his first Hollywood hit, "RoboCop," and 12 years after his first Hollywood bomb, "Showgirls," Paul Verhoeven returns to his native Holland to direct that country's most ambitious movie, the $22 million "Black Book."
Set in Holland near the end of World War II, "Black Book" stars the luminous Dutch beauty Carice van Houten as a Jewish singer who joins the resistance, assumes a new identity and infiltrates the local Nazi command by seducing Gestapo boss Ludwig Muentze (Sebastian Koch), with whom she then falls in love.
What they've concocted is a classic potboiler, with multiple villains, double agents, double crosses and a couple of endings too many in a story that just happens to occur during World War II.

Re: 'Black Book'
Ive seen it and its the worst ww2 movie i've seen in a long time!
Not just because of the historical mistakes made (too many to mention) but also because of the holes in the story, the bad acting, too much nakedness and poo, etc, etc, etc.

Re: 'Black Book'
I never did get around to seeing this movie - I saw a cinema trailer for it and read some very mixed reviews, so decided against going.....

Re: 'Black Book'
This one should be out on DVD in Finland soon. So we´ll see about that, then, if it´s any good....

Re: 'Black Book'
I also saw it and it was OK. Interesting plot. A while back someone posted a news article about a photo album with pics of SS concentration staff having fun at work. I thought of this as I saw the scene of the one SS officer playing the piano and being 'human' after earlier dispatching a group of Jews. I do like the recent foreign films on the war. I would not buy it but worth seeing. My zwei pfennig

I agree.
Definitely was not one of the best WWII efforts I've ever seen, but I didn't feel it was horrible either. Defintely a lot of twists, turns, and 180-degree spins, to be sure. It's not a movie you want to watch, however, if you are expecting a lot of WWII action.
