Back to the Ken Burn's film, I have noticed alot of basic mistakes from the double firing German sniper rifle, it clearly is a K98 with a bolt(who did the research on this Big Bird?)but it fires twice with no bolt action between shots, What for? I will hold back my other comments besides the underlying theme that he presents Americans as cowards and lucky.
Your thoughts?

I just finished watching "The War". I thought it was great! The homefront gets left out or downplayed in a lot of docs. There was a lot of footage that I hadn't seen before. I liked too that that the historians weren't there touting the exploits of generals, admirals and the like. Its about the regular GIs, pilots, and sailors and the people they left @ home.
The only crtitcisim I have is not covering the flag raising on Iwo. I know its been done by everyone but it was a major event and a morale booster! Burns didn't have to dwell on it, but he should have atleast shown the Rosenthal photo!
Overall though an AWESOME series!

The US and the military were VERY racist during WWII. Despite that there were African/Native/Japanese-Americans who served THEIR country with distinction! Only now are they being recongnized for their sacrifices.

Another good series I enjoy from THC is Dogfights.... usually on Friday nights at 11PM EST...

I've seen it. It is good, exceptially the parts about the battle of the bulge, the concintration camps and the battle of britian. Ken burns... he is a really good man. Geoffrey c .ward is the producer, I have the book.  (you can but it a Wal-Mart I think) |
