HELP MAKE A WWII MOVIE
After I film my RAF movie, I'm not sure what I'm going to make next. By senior year, which is in 2 years, I need to have one done about the 82nd Airborne for my graduation project.
I was thinking we could all collaborate on a movie. I'll tell you the props, costumes, and resources I have:
Props
In the line of weapons, I have a Colt .45, Thompson (drum barrel), Springfield rifle, Luger, 2 MP-40s, P-38, and I'm hoping to get more soon. I also have some miscellaneously items such as medals, gear, flags, etc...
Costumes
My uniforms sometimes are criticized because they're expensive to make and I don't want to spend too much on it. They are respectable for the most part though, I'll try and get some pictures up eventually. I have 1 US 82nd Airborne Uniform, 1 US Ranger Uniform, 2 Nazi sentry uniforms with trench coats, 1 Nazi uniform (Mediterranean 1941), 1 US Bastogne uniform, 2 US Dress uniforms (army), and I think that's it. I could easily scrounge up civilian uniforms as well.
Resources
Near me there is a restore C-47 as well as a Willy's Jeep, and an ME262. I have a forest across the street and neighbors who don't mind reenactments going on out there. I have a giant field and old looking houses. My basement even looks like a bomb shelter from the war. Also, in my basement, I have a 24'x10' green screen, which I'm still figuring out, but I'll get it to work eventually.
Does it give anyone ideas? If you want to see some of my old work, you can see it here:
YouTube - The Luck of War (Part 5)
(I'm the one in the NON Vietnam uniform, with the M1 Garand)
It was filmed in 1 day with no preparation, so it isn't as good as a planned movie will be.

Re: HELP MAKE A WWII MOVIE
Why not a "what if" scenario?
You apparently like MoH and that's pretty much the concept. Do someting where the main character is part of the OSS and is sent to assasinate Hilter. Something along the lines of the movie "The Eagle has Landed" but with Americans.

Re: HELP MAKE A WWII MOVIE
Most of my older scripts were about 1 man taking on a whole army, and I think I wrote one where someone tries to assassinate Hitler, but I don't think I'd be able to find anyone willing to play him in the movie.
I actually thought about asking them as soon as I find some contact info about them.

Re: HELP MAKE A WWII MOVIE
We have some lurking about in here. If you are striking out, see if you email Marne. He hasn't posted in quite a while, so you can't leave a message here or PM him. He is/was very involved in reenacting, maybe he can point you in the right direction.
There was another guy who joined back in the summer who dressed as a German, anyone remember his name?

Re: HELP MAKE A WWII MOVIE
I saw The Luck of War series and its pretty good. Theres a Website that sells Formed plastic moldings of WW2 guns called Cushmanpaintball.com. I too am a film maker and I'm currently working on a WW2 picture.
P.S. How did you pull off those bullet hits?

Re: HELP MAKE A WWII MOVIE
sorry for the late reply, t-bird. I use FXHome Effects Lab Pro to animate muzzle flashes and explosions, and as for impacts, most of the time we just use bottles of baby powder.

Re: HELP MAKE A WWII MOVIE
Yup, I do live in the Northeast, and right across the street from me is a giant forest. I made a movie titled "The Hills of Bastogne". The movie was the Battle of The Bulge. I also used the forest for my new movie about D-Day, which is what this thread was made for. I got in touch with reenactors, got better equipment and even was lent a C-47 for an hour. That movie is in production right now and should be finished in a month or two. I'll keep you guys posted, but in the mean time, if any of you have a facebook, you can see a preview here. Don't forget to add me and join the group! My name's Tom Lynskey.

Re: HELP MAKE A WWII MOVIE
JK.
Have you thought of doing a character driven short? Maybe something along the lines of Dana Andrews in Best Years of Our Lives, when his character was at Davis-Montham AFB. He was going through the aircraft there to be demolished, remembering combat over Europe, I guess trying to come to grips with the war.

Re: HELP MAKE A WWII MOVIE
I had considered something like that and I might do it soon. This movie though has to focus on the Airborne in general because despite how much fun I'm having with it, it's still a school project lol

Re: HELP MAKE A WWII MOVIE
Jkilts;
You could interspice your reenactor movie with slideshows with actual photos, accompanied by whatever music you can find that you can purchase cheap-or better yet get for free. I have been experimenting with colorizing old B & Ws into color with Adobe Elements 6-I think this makes the photos a lot more tangible to modern audiences -but this does take a bit of work. The History Channel formula for handling old photos has been Ken Burns effect old photos sliding across the screen with music and narration. They have been experimenting with Adobe effects on Old B & W's but have yet to jump into color-afraid of offending "purists" or something? Well WWII was not FOUGHT in B & W so what is the problem here?
