Default Tank in Band of Brothers

I was watching B of B last night and at the end of the episode Lt Winters gets onto the front of a tank to sit beside Capt. Nixon as the tank moves off there is two large metal pieces sticking up at the rear and at the top they are slightly curved, sorry for the poor description.
Would some one be able to tell me what the purpose is.

Many thanks

Deep wading gear mate, as covered in this thread (before it potters off down the rather different but related topic of Duplex drive):
What's Up With These Shermans?

Cheers,
Adam.

Adam

Thank you for your reply and the link to the other thread which I found really interesting and the pics too, my mystery is solved!
I did do several searches but when you don't have the right names you get all sorts of guff back.

Kind regards
cruachan
