Thumbs up Hitler: The Last Ten Days, is finally being released to DvD.

I recall watching this one many many years ago. The last time was probably when I was under the age of 15. Anyway, I remember it being a pretty good one, and having Sir Alec Guiness as Adolf Hitler-certainly does not hurt!

I saw it again recently and it doesn't compare at all with Downfall, a waste of time really. And Guinness' tone of voice is completely wrong for the part.

I admit, it looked good when I first saw it - which was at least a good 25 years ago, so I don't remember anything except that Sir Alec Guinness played Der Fuhrer. ;-))

Another film i'd like to see released and that I remember was very well made-but made for TV release only, was a movie that focused on Albert Speer and I THINK was played by Rutger Hauer? I think it was called something like: Hitler: The Whole Shocking Story??? That too was played well over 20 years ago.

I thought Alec Guiness played Grofaz in 'The Bunker'. Hmmm. I may be mistaken. Also remember Za, US films are normally made for entertainment purposes and use 'A' list characters that bring in the crowds at the cost of accuracy, take the new film 'Valkyrie' with the no good Cruise.

At the time "The Last Ten Days" wasn't really and entertainment film, it was dead serious, based if I'm not mistaken on Trevor-Roper's book of the same name. However it simply wasn't much of a movie, that's it.

I'd like to seek this Valkyrie, Cruise or no Cruise (though I liked him, he did make some good movies, like The Colour of Money with Paul Newman, Rain Man with Dustin Hoffman, etc.)

I never heard of that Speer film Carl, you made me curious

Another film that comes to mind was that one on the Wansee Conference, with a blonde Kenneth Branagh playing the dark haired Reinhard Heydrich

Hi Miguel, the film with Rutger Hauer in it was well made. I think it was on the tube in the early 1980's if im not mistaken? One thing I also remembered about that film, is that Albert Speer was one of the technical advisors on that film. I also remember that at the end of the film, Rutger Hauer (as himself) showed off that famous model that was built that showed what the new Berlin was going to look like-which I thought as a mere Teenager, that that was one heck of a fantastic diorama-though I thought some of the buildings were grossly too big and cold looking.

Miguel, I just checked the IMDB for the movie name and it is: "Inside the Third Reich." He was Albert Speer and Sir John Gielgud and Trevor Howard were also in it. This movie is also only available on VHS tape-unfortunately.
