Re: Hogans Heroes Anyone?
Have any of you seen the feature film 'Auto Focus'. A biopic giving a dramatic insight into the dark world of sex addiction and eventual murder of Bob Crane. Who starred as Hogan in Hogan's Heroes. Released in 2002, about the time I saw it in a small art cinema. It sunk without trace my side of the atlantic.
Fascinating.

Re: Hogans Heroes Anyone?
Here's a little tidbit about Robert Clary from Hogan's Heroes (from IMDB)
"Born in France, Robert Clary early suffered the pangs of war, being interned in a Nazi concentration camp as a child. After WWII he became a singing star in France, and in 1949 came to the United States to promote his career. He appeared on "The Ed Wynn Show" (1949); still learning English he performed in a French language comedy skit. His comedic skills were recognized by Broadway, where he appeared in several revues, including one which moved from theater to film, New Faces (1954). In the 1950's he was a game show regular, and then in 1965 he became Corporal Louis LeBeau in "Hogan's Heroes" (1965). Later film roles were based around WWII, such as Remembrance of Love (1982) (TV) about Holocaust survivors. More recently he returned to television series, joining "Days of Our Lives" (1965) and appearing in "The Young and the Restless" (1973)."
Seems he had the real background to play his role in the Hogan Heroes series!

I don't think it did too much here either, Bod. I've heard of it, but never saw it.

Yep, I was weaned on TV with reruns of this show-along w/ Leave It To BEaver, The Munsters, Star Trek, The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, etc etc etc.
I have all SIX seasons of the show on DvD. The show ran from 1965 to 1970. These come with extras on some of the DvDs.
PS, TV Land in my area, is showing them early evening and then again after midnight. Last night they weren't on but, Sanford and Son were-which is an OK suppliment. ;-))

Re: Hogans Heroes Anyone?
I've always loved HH. WhenI was a kid, obsessed with WW2, I was in my junior high library reading WW2 newspapers. They had them in these huge blue binders.
I found an interesting thing. In a picture taken about the end of the war, there was five prisoners on a porch holding up a sign reading:"Welcome to Stalag 17". The prisoners looked very much like the actors from the show. I think the show was cast from this picture.

Re: Hogans Heroes Anyone?
The summer of 1970 I was working in a machine shop. Well the boss was this German gentleman who they said had been a soldier in WWII and NOT in the Allied camp. Well one morning Peter came in laughing and jolly-"Dot 'Hogan's Heroes'!" he was laughing. "Dot iss chust like de Cherman Armee! 'DIS...miiisssed!'" he did Col Klink's schtick. The writers apparently got the "comedy of manners" right enough to impress a guy who was actually there.

Hi Lias, Hogan's Heroes was actually created because of the William Holden classic: Stalag 13.
PS, did you know that all of the main German stars of that series, were German Jews! Klemperer, Banner, Caine and Askin were all Jewish. As well, LeBeau (Clary) is Jewish and was a former inmate of a Concentration Camp-where he lost some 22 members of his family.
Believe-it-or-not? but, I exchanged several emails with Robert Clary some several years ago. I think I still may have saved 1 or 2 of them somewhere? Anyway, the reason why I even mentioned this is because I had asked him in at least one email, how he felt being a character in Hogan's Heroes. If I recall, he told me it bothered him somewhat but, he didn't let that get in the way of doing his job.
The rest of the emails dealt with talking about his singing career. As far as I know, he is still living in New York City.

Re: Hogans Heroes Anyone?
Hey Carl, you may know the answer to this question. I have been looking at Klink's awards and there is one I can never see clearly but it looks like the Fallshirmjager badge. Am I correct? It is located to Klink's left. His has the Iron Cross, The pilot's badge and the little eagle above his Iron Cross (forget the name but given to those who already have the Iron Cross 1st class). Just curious but it is driving me crazy.
